Thanks for the clarification..Wont definatly not change modem/router...
.I just got an Email from SM of MTNL Mumbai division which says

Dear Anup
Sir ,
We are ready to provide 16 MB plan on your broadband connection &
may pl be contact with me if you are wants 16 MB speed ..

With Thanks & Regards
S.S.PARATE
SM(EXTL-1)MUL

He told me to visit exchange tommorow and have a word with him...Spcl thanks to @socrates for giving me the email Id...He(SM) also told that I would be getting 14-15 Mbps...Waiting eagerly for tommorow to see how it goes...

I'm on a 4Mbps connection at the moment. My line stats are:

SNR Up : 24.1
SNR Down : 20.6
Line Attenuation Up : 22.6
Line Attenuation Down : 35.6

Can I safely move to one of the 6Mbps plans without my SNR going below 12-13 or so?

Thanks

@evilpoodle

Your stats don't mean much. Post screenshot of stats and tell us your modem make. Different ADSL modems have wildly different SNR values and sync rates.

But going by your posted stats, you should be fine upto 10 Mbps speed.

Finally I persuaded MTNL to change my plan to 16Mbps...But WO will be effective on 28th May and they also told Mine will an experimental 16Mbps connection...I told them its fine..On a different note Can i improve my current speed ..M getting 675-750 KB/sec when I use torrents..Normal download speeds are 830-850 KB/sec...M currently on BB-1500-8M 60 Gb FUP plan...I have overheard many people getting better speeds by improving sync rates...Can anybody telling me howz that possible???

@evilpoodle :This is what he wants

@d5aqoëp

Here are my stats:

Modulation : ADSL2+
Annex Mode : Annex M
Line State : up
Lan Tx : 2826688
Lan Rx : 1993031
ADSL Tx : 759583
ADSL Rx : 1306919
CRC Down : 0
CRC Up : 82
FEC Down : 0
FEC Up : 538
HEC Down : 138
HEC Up : 0
SNR Up : 24.1
SNR Down : 19.7
Line Attenuation Up : 22.6
Line Attenuation Down : 35.6
Data Rate Up : 1021
Data Rate Down : 4095

Yeah, I know. Can you tell me which of those numbers indicates that (apart from the SNR and attenuation stats)? Thanks.

Apart from those two, "Data Rate Down" indicates poor line condition. For 4095 kbps data rate down, you must have 30-40 SNR and attenuation under 20 for chance to use 16 Mbps plans.
