Has anyone else been moved from public IP to NAT by BSNL Broadband in recent days?

it's worse. isps charge a lot for static ips because of the shortage. nat is completely opposite. they are basically allocating same ip to multiple customers to handle the lack of ips available. this causes issues with a lot of online services like p2p communications and even gaming. cctvs do not work over the internet and so on.

jio went ipv6 to avoid this hassle. most wired internet services are using nat. and bsnl seems to be just the latest one to switch from public ip to private ip to overcome the shortage of ipv4 ips. most people would never realize this as they would never use an online service that requires public ip.

if that is the case and checking with what igloo said there is a difference between the ips. But before that i could not locate the section where ip is displayed in my modem page, i saw a section on default gateway. it said ***.***.0.1. when i checked what is my ip i got ***.***.15.99 with changed to the last 4 numbers.

now sharing ip's is it a secure thing to do ? why couldnt BSNL also switch to IPV6 ?

these are the two ips assigned to me. both are private i believe.

this is what airtel 4g assigns me. again private i guess.

@InkTone upgrading infrastructure to IPV6 costs money NAT is cheap and easy fix plus BSNL or any other isp would need to support both IPV4 and 6 because not all websites are on IPV6 network nor all customer equipment .

lol yeah. millions of shitty quality ipv4 only routers are being used around the country. god knows how many years before a company like bsnl can consider switching over to ipv6. jio is probably the only major player on ipv6. they had the advantage of starting fresh and starting late and they made the smart choice of going full ipv6.

may be in next 10-20 years as ISPs and customer's equipment would require replacement and then they would be replaced with IPV6 compatible equipments gradually.

If Jio launch their fiber or wired broadband services on a wide scale then may be other big players like Airtel, Act will start thinking about IPV6 but then again most customers are not affected by NAT and there is no big incentive to upgrade.

well i just changed to bsnl wireless broadband and now i am getting 10 mbps upload and 10 mbps download unlimited in 849 rs and ping is very good now. like 74 ms to 80 ms from Singapore. If anyone wants to get the wireless broadband then call 18001028028
