Doubt regarding new BSNL FTTH connection

Go for either of these:
1. TX-6610 | 1-Port Gigabit GPON Terminal | TP-Link Service Provider
2. XZ000-G3 | 1-Port GPON SFU | TP-Link Service Provider

I suggest number two because it supports ITU-T G.988. Not yet implemented in India, but it will futureproof your ONT for the next 10 years in the nation.

I can vouch for TP-Link quality and customer support. Their products' performance closely matches what they mention on paper. Which is a bonus really.

Yeah, I always wonder why the mainstream companies are not interested in selling ONTs.

At this point if you need popular brands for cheap, then only option is Huawei from AliExpress or IndiaMart I guess. There's ZTE also on AliExpress.

I checked with a reseller on Alibaba, and a brand new Huawei basic ONT is just 6.8 USD if you take 50+ units (plus shipping and 18% GST/customs duty)

India's embarrassingly low power on Fibre Optics. Is India too broke to push more light through fibre or what?

-26db for BSNL in my area. Which is embarrassing.

BTW, when I initially got BSNL FTTH my optical signal level was at a healthy -15 dB now it has dropped to a worrying -27 dB which is around the threshold for my ONU to even detect the signal

My (non-BSNL) Fiber is at -27dB as well . Sometimes it drops to -25dB for some reason. I even tried smoothing out some sharp bends in the fiber junction box (not much difference ) . Its still working just fine and maxes out my connection. I think it only drops out around -32dB on most ONTs.

I still do have that - 16db guess my lco doesn't have much connection right now, just a handful it was - 15 or 14 when it was started, guess it might increase when there are lot of connections.

On paper a Class B+ ONT can detect till -28 dBm and a Class C+ ONT (more expensive) can detect till -32 dBm. Most ONTs are Class B+.

However in reality even Class B+ ONTs seem to work okay with input level less than -28 dBm.

One thing, I'm still not very clear about is whether max throughput or performance affected by the input signal levels. If the ONT can detect the signal is it all the same?

The more passive splitters the LCO/ISP add the power level drops, also as the distance increases the power drops. I guess it is good to keep an eye on the power levels cause if it's on the extreme end, if another splitter is added you might lose connectivity.
