Router recommendations for Airtel 1 Gbps plan?

Just got an Airtel 1 Gbps plan, luckily the team was in the same building setting up another connection. So all the wiring and hardware was all set in 2 hours. The activation is supposed to happen by tomorrow.

I am on Youbroadband 200 mbps right now and Dir 825 ac 1200 router works great, but for a 1 Gbps speed, I had to spend a lot of time today looking up a router that will actually come close to delivering 1 Gbps over wifi, heck anything over 800 mbps and I will be happy.

Which router do you guys use for a 1 gbps connection? What's your experience been like?

Well the onus should be on Airtel to provide you with a router which can support the service you are paying for.

NAT without hardware acceleration is tough for the router. I have a supermicro C2758 based pfsense router, and it can reach gigabit speeds.

Yeah it's silly that Airtel uses the same ONT's for all their plans.

Can mesh routers push 1gbps consistently? Wouldnt they be limited by their link speed too?

Mesh routers in my opinion solve the problem of Wifi coverage range, not necessarily the speed. They are limited by their link speed.

Yeah was about to get this, but none of my devices support Wifi 6 yet.

@buggybuggy would recommend you to get WiFi 6 Router if you're going to spend 8K anyway it should have proper WiFi 5 support too and probably would have a better CPU and future proofing is not bad

@The_PC_Guy I was very tempted by the TP-Link Wifi 6 router, but I don't imagine getting any Wifi 6 devices anytime soon, also looked at the reviews on that router, it's an entry level Wifi 6 router and some people were having issues with AC speeds. So my reasoning was getting the best AC router for now and leave the Wifi 6 for future when I have devices that have Wifi 6.

@The_PC_Guy Check this review for Wifi 6 Router, so basically it's just like a regular AC 1200 router, so no use really for a gigabit speed support.

4. 5 GHz band is as usual have short range. The 5 GHz AC can connect to any device with a maximum of 1200 Mbps link speed, even if supported WiFi adapter maximum speed is higher to 1200mbps. If only AX mode is selected, router can connect to AX device to maximum of 2400 Mbps but it will not run AC mode. With mix mode with AC and AX, the maximum connection speed reduces to 1200 Mbps even for AX devices. So, this router is called AX router with 2400 Mbps for 5GHz or a AX router with 1200 Mbps that can connect to AC devices too, so it is misleading on part of TP-Link. I shared the same on their forum but no response from their representative.

What mobiles are you using. All the current gen mobiles say a year old also support WiFi 6.

Also, do the routers /GPON (Nokia or Huawei) supplied by Airtel support 1gbps over lan or not for 1gbps plan.
