I've raised disputes and won chargebacks. Some merchants take customers for granted.

Citi called me a year ago and replaced my card for free following a data breach. While HDFC didn't do anything, and my friend received a fraudulent transaction from somebody in Romani at Booking.com. HDFC was too slow to do anything even when he called them right away.

I remember there was a subscription that Sushubh put on my PayPal account a few years ago, and I didn't recognise it. I was going to dispute it, but thought about asking him first. I would have lost the chargeback for sure. 😛

Did he have any fraudulent cover in his card ? If it was a basic card, then he must be fucked.

That's the reason I prefer using AMEX or other premium cards when traveling internationally. All of them offer decent fraud cover, and once you've reported breach/theft/loss even via IVR, you're off the hook.

I remember mistakingly filing a chargeback for a charge I didn't recognise, and it turned out to be an infibeam (RIP) order i had placed months ago, which got charged and shipped at a much later date. HDFC just returned my money without any hassles even though it was my fault. Chargeback couldn't be cancelled. This was back in 2012-2013 I think.

I received an email that they need to verify my communication address, because their system felt that the two (residential and communication) are different. And they want me to fill a letter confirming the communication address and provide an address proof.

I reverted over email that both the addresses are same and sent them an address proof. And my email opened a ticket. Lol

I'm assuming they provide support via email only or primarily.

@alekhkhanna

I use Citi for international transactions. The best experience so far.

Good luck buddy, you’re gonna be in loop for 5 days.

I'm not bothered at all. But for the thread's saks. I'll keep you guys updated about what's to follow.

@alekhkhanna It took HDFC more than a month to settle the dispute in his favour. What more should I say? 😛

You don't need a fraud protection for a card. It's covered under VISA/ MasterCard rules. Banks may provide an extra layer of tnc but the basic structure is that of Visa/ MasterCard. I won a chargeback for an SBI debit card for a foolish Agoda.com (booking.com subsidiary) last year. The reversal showed up 45 days later as bulk posting from Agoda, though I had raised the dispute with SBI. But if you share OTP for any transaction, Visa/ MasterCard won't cover you as OTP is a digital signature.
