A friend recently ended up damaging his Samsung Galaxy S3 during a trip to Goa. He is currently using a crappy Duos smartphone from the same company. He asked me for a recommendation for a good Android smartphone. He asked if Nexus 5 is still a device to go for. I was not so sure. I asked him to check out Sony Xperia Z2. He looked interest. Just curious if there are better options out there? I mean I understand that Xiaomi Mi 3 might be a much better deal on paper… But this guy needs a premium smartphone that can handle some abuse which is why I suggested a water and dust resistant device to him.

No idea about cost. But while he is at high end, he can always checkout the latest phones in all the leading brands HTC One E8 or LG G3 etc.. I am guessing they should be out by now... or are they still not released yet?

lol.. I would not recommend Samsung .. And I read they have lost the pole position to Micromax in India :D

I believe only Sony Z2 is waterproof, atleast others havent bothered to showcase the fact, if so.

I am assuming the "no microlag" iPhone is ruled out. Also BB10/windows devices?

iPhone 5s is attracting at a sub 45000 price tag. And he might end up getting that. But I want to save him from going to the dark side.

He showed interest in the Sony Smartband which is included in the package. I wonder what features it provide. It does not look like a hip enough accessory for a guy to sport on his wrist sadly.

I'm not so sure about the Z2's rugged nature. Have had two friends end up with cracked displays. Strangely, one of them just kept his phone face down on the coffee table, and the top bit of the screen developed a crack and became non responsive. Happened right in front of me.

I'd suggest the G3.

:D
LG just does not have the repo that Sony still has in India. And he is a careful guy with his phones. Keeps them in case and like that. But water is something that can be a problem if you end up in rains. I would suggest both the devices because LG G3 is definitely the better phone out of the two.

Every phone which has the front glass exposed completely without slightly bulging out border has this issue. I have seen many N4 users reporting this problem too. It happens due to the sudden drop in temperature according to reports.
