I can only say I hope that it was one of the lower cost states, it would have been crazy to go to say California for example for this salary.

**No offense if it was California
 
It was Lincoln, Nebraska. None of my friends in USA knew where it was then, and I had an army of friends there :)

But one thing is that people going through Indian companies are paid pittance in USA, H1 People going directly are better.

I have learnt that Australia pays better!
