Ok so one of my "crazy" friends is gifting me iPhone 6 soon! (because of a some challenge which i won + something that i helped him to do)

He is insisting that he will gift iphone 6 only not any other mobile. (Even after I told him that I will sell it!!)

Now I am NOT AT ALL iphone / Apple fan. He tells me to give it a try and I will never buy any other mobile!!

When I see specification of Apple iPhone 6 - I dont find it attractive. (and dont find it worthy of 50k Rs!)
  1. Just single SIM and not dual sim (that too nano sim)
  2. Smaller than Samsung Galaxy S5
  3. Not water resistant (Galaxy S5 is water resistant)
  4. CPU seems just 1.4GHz dual core (64bit) compared v/s 2.5Ghz quad core - dont know if 64bit makes a difference
  5. GPU PowerVR GX6450 (quad-core graphics) v/s Adreno 330 - dont know the difference between two
  6. 1GB internal RAM compared to 2GB in Galaxy S5
  7. 8MP camera v/s 16MP camera
  8. 1.2MP front camera v/s 2MP front camera
  9. 1080p recording v/s 2160p recording (not that I wud use it though)
  10. No external card slot (although 16GB internal is enough for me I suppose)
  11. No FM radio (my other friends would make fun of me on hearing this!)
  12. Non-removable 1810mAh battery v/s removable/replaceable 2800mAh battery
  13. There are other nice features that are in Galaxy 5 not in iphone6
  14. I use LINUX so I will have many other limitations too (which I am not aware of yet)
I see so many limitations. I simply DO NOT want the phone!! :D

But my friend still insists I try it and if I still dont like then I can sell it!!

New things that I am hearing:
Shatter proof glass, oleophobic coating
I have had Sony ericsson phone which they claimed scratch proof.
Its been 3-4 years, i never used scratch guard and there are still no scratches. (touchwood please!)

So what does shatter proof mean? Does that imply scratch proof glass?
Is it equivalent to gorilla glass? Or is it even better?

My concerns!!

First since its a gift - I morally DO NOT like to sell it! But urge to sell it is much high because of above feature comparison and following concerns!

Assuming that I do not sell it but use it, I have these concerns
  1. If glass breaks / has scratches - replacement will cost me big amount
  2. Can I transfer files using bluetooth to-from computer/android phones?
  3. Can I access phone contents via USB cable (esp. in Linux)?
  4. Do I need scratch guard? (I suppose iphone scratchcard wud cost a lot)
  5. Do I need water resistant cover? (again I suppose it wud cost a lot)
  6. Is data usage of iphone more than android? If yes, its going to reduce my phone balance!!
  7. Doe iphone use data connection in background without permission? If yes then again it may cost a lot.
Overall even if I get it FREE - I suppose using the iphone is going to cost me a lot. So have strong urge to sell it.

So what do you suggest?
Sell it OR keep it? (if possible with reasons - why?)

If I sell it? What should be the sell price?

Apple iTunes does support wireless data transfer and syncing today I think. But of course, no Linux support. Third party solutions might exist. Have not checked in a long time.

For file transfer, you can use any third party platform like BitTorrent Sync which would work on Linux. But for software updates etc. you would need to run Windows/OS X in a virtual machine.

I have windows in virtual machine but I dislike starting VM just for file transfer / updates etc.

If it supports transfer over bluetooth or wifi (say via FTP) that will also be enough for me.

Any review about iPhone 6 that u have heard from friends?
I am not a gamer so I dont want game based comparison.

From tech specs I still believe that iphone wud be way behind compared to Galaxy 5 in terms of speed and responsiveness?

I believe iphone 6 wud be way ahead only in terms of display and touch response because of quad-core GPU.

if you are comparing iPhone with a samsung phone, then certainly Iphone is not for you..

According to me Apple devices shouldnt be compared if you want to use one.
by comparing you will never buy an apple device.
Apple should bought/used just because it is apple, not any other reason.

Looks / smoothness - may be.

But battery?!! Only if iPhone uses less than half energy for better performance - seems unlikely.

Because battery of samsung is double than iphone.

I know, as I said I dont like it based on specifications.

That is why I wrote big post so that people can tell me - why I should keep it and not just send me away by saying - "its not for you!" :D ;)

as i mentioned above. getting your files to the iPhone is not an issue. bt sync works great on the iphone. but i am not sure if it would work for adding music and photos and videos to the iphone because things are a bit different on it. there is a camera roll for media files and itunes manages the music.

Ok. Thanks for your reply. Since I have never used (or seen much of) iPhone. Its going to take me few weeks to study and fine tune it.

If even after that I am unhappy I will sell it!

I dislike too many limitations. I have impression that iphone has too many limitations. You cant do this, you cant do that. You have to do this only this way etc etc.

I may be completely wrong.

Please continue your inputs! Thanks in advance!
