If your motherboard supports SATA HDD then I suggest you go for a 1TB internal HDD along with an USB external casing.

It will cost you much less than an external one at the same time it will give you higher data transfer speed when you connect it internally.

HEy Zeo,

Any idea what teh price differential would be if i go for an itnernal 1 TB over a portable 1TB?

Rgds...

Any current PC (P2 onwards) can use this type drive. Memory does not count and extra is not needed. External drives typically have a few but large media files resulting in a small fat etc. They work fine. Just don't drop them. External powered one Esata/Firewire/USB2.0 all are OK but transfer speed does take time.As all external devices use a normal 2.5"/3.5" inside, you can even open the case and connect the drive (for laptop drives a cradle would be needed) in case you need to move out the files slightly faster.Been there, done that!

I'm not sure whether you get a portable 1TB (2.5") HDD but if you compare an 1TB internal HDD (along with external USB casing) & an external 1TB HDD (externally powered), the difference in the prices of the two will be around Rs.500.

i just bought seagate 7200.12 1TB for Rs. 4500 in Gurgaon. the prices in Delhi Nehru Place are going to be cheaper. I bet you can get it for around Rs. 4000 with some bargaining skills.

Thats an amazing rate. My friend got ripped off for a Maxtor 500 GB for Rs 4600 from Lamington road a few days back. You talking about 1 TB external right ?

^He's talking about internal hard disk (7200.12-> Internal HDD from Seagate).By the way did your friend buy an external (3.5", external powered) or portable (2.5", USB powered) hard disk?

yeap. internal one.

external 1tb are likely to be much expensive.

i dont think we have external 1tb available in the market that do not require a power source.

Thanx for clarifying. He bought a 2.5" USB powered external HDD. For 3.5" external powered external HDD, the dealer quoted Rs 3200.

Latest prices in Mumbai as of yesterday 27th September:

WD 1TB external caviar green: 5500 - 3yrs warranty
Seagate 1TB external - 5300- 5yrs warranty...

This is from Anupam in Borivali (W)

Me thinking of going for WD
