listen folks, the current broadband scene in india is garbage and we all should accept it........whats the point in defending it. China is marching so far ahead of us that it's not even funny. the way things are moving here it won't be long before other less dveloped countries beat us on broadband front. i agree with params, once people get access to affordable unlimted internet, local content will follow automatically just like it happened in China and France. by the way the Chinese are learing english on a war footing, and i won't be surprised if in a decade if they have more english speakers in China than india. this 256 K crap, thanks to TRAI is going to stick on with us for years to come, it's time the bar is raised to 2 Mbps...what was good two years ago is not good today. If the govt can spend billions to get an indian on the moon, then it can surely do something about broadband too. for many of us broadband has become an essential part of our lives. unless people are provided with cheap unlimited broadband, how do you expect them to catch on to it? you can get an entry level comp for the same price as a good mobile phone now. and if computer is the issue, then 3G/ 4G etc should be brought in so that the need for a computer is elminated altogether. the govt will have to do something here, no private ISP is going to do anything unless they fear competiiton. i feel WIMAx is our only hope now in the near future .....we need more competition!

Somehow I suspect WiMax will be peddled as a premium/corporate service :) even more costly than dsl with worse caps

vishalrao, actually you could be right on this. but let us not write it off before it's even taken off. is there any other way to get us out of this broadband crunch? anyone? any light at the end of the tunnel? if not WIMAX how abt beyond 3G? or anything that can gives us true broadband! afterall if you are trying to introduce something ....why not go in for the latest and the best.
