Good. now let's see how much time they take from "hinting" to actually implementing

But we will need mobile supporting that band right??As of now most mobile have 900/1800 range.. havent seen mobile with 700 range.

Well thats just another number :DBut mobile support is must. The way this demand is increasing in India... in future we might need mobile with "radio type" tuneable frequencies :D

BTW as per wikipedia, 3G, 4G, Mediaflo and DVB-H comes under 700 Mhz band.

India pledges to auction 700MHz next year - Rethink Wireless

The government has set a deadline of the end of 2011 to the 700MHz band to be freed up, allowing for auctions in 2012, which could support LTE and rural broadband.

The spectrum would need to be vacated by public service broadcaster Doordarshan and other government agencies. Cellcos are interested in the band because it will allow networks to be built for one-third the cost of the 2.3GHz broadband wireless band, which was auctioned last year - 700MHz is preferable for areas of sparse population and/or low broadband demand, which will be common in most areas of India for some years to come. The higher band is more suited to high capacity, dense deployments.

Incumbent telcos to be kept out of 4G auction: Trai - The Times of India

Trai therefore feels that restricting the first phase of the 700-MHz auctions to the companies that do not own any airwaves in the 900-MHz band may even out the advantages enjoyed by the incumbents. But as more airwaves in the 700-MHz band are freed up for commercial telephony, incumbents such as Bharti Airtel , BSNL and Vodafone will be given frequencies in this band provided they pay the price equivalent to the amount determined in the auctions, Trai added.
