Star doesn't own a majority stake as its a news channel , only 33% I think. When they entered the market they tied up with ndtv and they had the star news channel. ndtv later moved out and started their own boquet. star tied up with some other folks ,need to google, and these guys were more smaller players and hence it became a more localised Hindi channel. Recently Star announced that they are exiting the news market as they were tired of being told what to do being junior partners in the arrangement. The channel will now be rebranded and be in the market in the local players name, unless they make a new tie up with some other big guy like maybe a sky or bbc or fox for example..
Pathetic! So this is the reason behind declining standards of Star News? So is it that the other news channels are on similar lines - big names associated have a small share, and the smaller partner who has bigger share, messes up with stuff!
This is the condition of most of the news channel and not only Hindi, regional news channels as well. TV9 Kannada, Telugu and couple of Sun network channels.
