ADSL modems compatbile with MTNL TriBand

I am considering buying my own modem given that MTNL choices are D-Link and T-KD (at the exchange where my line is connected).

I have the 599NU plan and it requires that I reboot the modem @ 00:00 and 08:00 hours. My main requirement is that an automated script (based on expect scripting language) should be able to telnet into the unit and reboot it. Also, I should be able to save settings to the unit's NVRAM using Firefox on any desktop platform.

My personal experience is based on DLink DSL502T and T-KD 318EUI (both rented from MTNL). My script could login into the DSL502T and reboot but to saving any changes to it's settings requires WinXP/IE combo.

With the 318EUI, I can manually telnet into the unit and reboot it. However, the expect script is able to login but the unit does not reboot in spite of the script sending the reboot command. :madness:

I have researched some and come across the following brands/models of ADSL2+ compatible modems (not sure how many of them are readily available in Mumbai)Brand Model

I got D-Link GLB-802C which is the successor of 502T(almost 6-7 months now).this router is good.but needs a switched mode adaptor(not the one bundled).the power fluctuations -even the smaller ones got a chance to disconnect dsl.before you try to get a modem ,try getting a switched mode power type adaptor for the router.try cleaning the telephone point(copper wire) with a blade and get a new RJ-11 connector and screw this maximum tight.I did so and my frequent disconnection problem is almost reduced quiet a lot.If you have a box from bsnl/mtnl outside your house ,make sure the copper points are good by cleaning it.get a small rossette box and connect firm the points.after this ,go to router's config page(192.168.1.1 probably) and check the dsl parameters for the line attenuation value whether reduced a little bit, SNR values increased etc.for my case ,there was a drastic difference albeit positively.these all can save.most routers except Huawei MT880/882 are not very stable with power supply in India.PS: you can ask for huawei MT882/841(wireless) if you need from BSNL(dont know about mtnl).

If you get a Netgear, Linksys, Buffalo or a Billion ADSL2+ modem, you will most likely be happy as compared to other people who own modems from brands like D-Link, UT and the rest. And there are exceptions to this like exceptions to almost every rule and theorem in Maths and Physics.

I have a Linksys WAG200G..modem + wireless router and it works great..D-Link 502T was horrible for me..

Why??



Netgear, Linksys and Buffalo products are more reliable than the rest. Others are less reliable. At the same time some people have had no problems whatsoever with 'other' brands. These people are the exceptions. My conclusion is based on posts in our forum as well as other forums just like ours.
