Gotta be honest, I really think this craze with speed (99% of the time download speeds) regarding any generation of network is what kills the hope of getting a better optimized network because most people here and like many of the tech reviewers Just hype up the speed (mostly download) and anything below 200-250 Mbps (again download) is like a disgrace to many people online who share their views when it comes to 5g network but like majority of us don't have any use case for that high speed on our mobiles. I think the network providers should optimize their networks for Ping and the actual routing of the packets.
In my opinion anything beyond 30-40 Mbps (with some overhead) is a waste for the masses (Air Fiber aside) obviously there is a niche category of people who use it to upload and download large files but other than that many of us mostly use our mobile internet for video calling, social media, consuming content or the occasional large game downloads.
REGARDING CONSUMING CONTENT
Anything above 1080p is a waste on a mobile screen because most i have seen is a QHD display on most flagships and then again at that small a screen size it is almost indistinguishable unless you really really look for it but at that point it's nitpicking.
REGARDING UPLOAD SPEEDS
Now i understand that the mobile transmitters are just aren't powerful enough to give us even triple digit upload speeds in real word scenario but i thing a stable 30-40 Mbps is doable, these days network operators show ads about crystal clear video calls but if the upload speed of somebody's connection is like 1-2 Mbps (which most people get in congested areas with 4G) no matter how fast is other person's Download speed the video would still be pixelated and nowhere near the quality of video that our front cameras can capture.
So if the network providers can give both better routing, pings and stable blazing fast speeds (both up and down), I am all for it but if it's a tradeoff between investing more money into R&D to improve pings, routing and unstable higher speeds (anything triple digit or even beyond 30-40 Mbps) , personally I prefer Ping over speed any day. So all in all my ideal sort of mobile internet would be 30-40 Mbps (Both up and down symmetric) and ping <5ms don't really care if that's marketed as 2G, 3G, 4G or 5G.
