My friend who uses Airtel Postpaid for the last couple of years ,has never seen such

And same from me as well ,I havent seen that on my postpaid sim either

Honestly this is the kind of behaviour that Apple should restrict. It's a phone feature. Samsung doesn't show operator name unless you swipe down the notification.

Someone should raise this concern to Apple I guess

It's not the problem of Samsung or Apple. It's the place for carrier name and it's sometimes important to know which carrier you are connected to expecially in international roaming. Airtel is abusing it so it must be held accountable.
