ok. an update on my problem. managed to get an airtel representative (technically an alcatel-lucent employee) to visit my place. he went through the procedure... confirmed the problem. tried to get it fixed through the backend. no change. he said that it might be a problem with the copper. they would check some more things in the backend tomorrow. if nothing works, copper would have to be changed. i am looking for a crappy internet connectivity for the next couple of days.

now we are talking!

Would still have to go for the smartbytes package. I am still eating more than a GB a day!

I've a question. I think speed-on-demand used to give only 2mbps speeds. What speeds would one get under the smartbytes package? Would it depend on the original speed(1/2/4 mbps) of your bill plan or 2 mbps?

You will get your plan speed with SmartBytes.

it sucks that everyone pays the same price for extra bandwidth. i mean i paid 2099 for 150GB. why am i being asked to pay 100 bucks for 1 extra GB?

they need to have relative pricing for people on different plans. but then it would make the system more complicated and is probably out of their technical capabilities to manage it properly.

Looks like Airtel is trolling with me. Within a couple of hours with regular browsing and absolutely no downloading, I am now down to this :|

I finally made the switch to 4mbps 150gb.I have a friend who works at Airtel and is managing broadband upgrades all over India. By Feb, we can expect the minimum speeds of ALL broadband plans to be 2mbps. So there are at least some brains at airtel now.

are you saying 2mbps as minimum speed after FUP? from airtel? seriously? i do not believe you!

I think by saying minimum 2mbps is before FUP. They have already taken off 512kbps & 1mbps plans in Bangalore.

2mbps plans as minimum before FUP does not really change anything if they are going to stick with FUPs ranging between 3GB and 150GB. 3GB costs around 650 bucks for god sake.

just had another major annoyance with the FUP message.

i opened up around 15 links from a web page and closed it.

noticed after a while that around 5 of those pages ended up getting redirected to the FUP message.

and since the link was changed, i lost the original target. :|

Until Airtel provides a post-FUP speed of a minimum of 1 MBPS, it sucks. I hope we would atleast see an increase in FUP limits in the current plans.

I also don't have a clue why they are not offering a plan with more than 150 GB of high speed data. They just want to fleece the customers by charging exorbitant amounts for smartbytes.

A new plan offering 250 GB is needed. Going by the current rates at Airtel,
250 GB @ 4MBPS - Rs. 2499 /-
250 GB @ 2MBPS - Rs. 2399 /-
