Cool .. next time i do some online shopping will give you a yell :)

blogged about it
Will get in touch with you sometime to get blogging tips .. would love to start a blog for myself ..

Well if you are it and interested, why not make one for multiple ISP's? MTNL and BSNL use a similar structure if I am not mistaken. Don't know about tata/reliance.

I'm not sure if other ISPs have a page telling you about your data usage .. I guess not .. if they are available .. i Can make it ..

metro app would be nice. i am not on windows 8. though i plan to give it a test once it releases next month.

brian already has a firefox app ( DataFox ) for bsnl and mtnl users. the problem with them is that different circles have different ips and they require a username password to get access to the usage page. airtel provides easier access to usage page and it is apparently a single url for all users spread across the country. brian had major problems developing the app coz he needed access to username and passwords on accounts in different regions to work on those usage pages... the data structure used by mtnl and bsnl is very complicated and keeps on changing regularly breaking the functionality of the app. similar to how airtel uses tables with individual entries in their myairtel page. if smartbytes page was not available, developing this app would have taken 10x more effort.

There's some benefit to the existence of smartbytes after all.

people seem to hate it because anyone on the same wireless network can recharge smartbytes. they added a captcha but that only solve mistaken clicks. they want this page to be password protected. and airtel might respond with something like that breaking this extension.

yeah something like that would be a disaster for the extension .. well enjoy till it lasts .somehow in Chrome's Developer Dashboard, its not showing the number of downloads for the extension. still shows 0 downloads ... Im pretty sure couple of my friends have downloaded it..

I had raised a request with airtel that SmartBytes page is not visible on my home connection .. their engineers could not rectify the issue.. now Airtel Showing error page of smartbytes on my home connection. Looks like Airtel restricts Smartbytes on certain type of of plans or old plans.

here is a screenshot of smartbytes error:

neh. it happens randomly. i have not been able to access that page for weeks in one go. dealt with customer care for days. in the end i was told that smartbytes page is not designed to show you your usage (hilarious right?). i sent him screenshots from folks here as proof that it was not working on my account. the dude gave up in the end. told me that the technical team told him that it is IMPOSSIBLE that this page would show the usage to end user. and that's the final word from them and he was not able to escalate the issue any further. eventually i gave up and waited for the next billing cycle to start. sometimes this message stays for a couple of hours. sometimes a couple of days. sometimes for the entire billing period. sucks.
