Airtel Broadband with a Router is not Working

The default modem from Airtel (beetel 220BXI ADSL2 + modem) has only one port for ethernet cord. Internet works fine when I connect my computer to this port. But when I connect a broadband router (Linksys RT31P2) to the modem and then the my computer to the router, I am unable to connect to the internet. When I use "ipconfig" in the command prompt, I do not see any "Default Gateway", which I otherwise see when I directly connect to the modem. Is this the reason I am unable to access the internet using my router? How do I rectify this problem? Any inputs/pointers are greatly appreciated...Sam

seems RT31P2 is discontinued model
can be used for VOIP use also.
Hope there is no locked/unlocked problem.

Select Auto assign IP address in TCP/IP properties
Post IPconfig/all details

Make sure that the 220BX and Linksys are on different subnets i.e. there shouldn't be an ip conflict. This is an example of what u setup should look like.

220BX:
ip - 192.168.1.1

Linksys:
ip - 192.168.2.1 (you might have to change the lan ip assigned to the Linksys by connecting an ethernet cable from ur comp's ethernet card to one of the ethernet ports of the Linksys and logging into the router and changing the ip from within the lan settings)

After changing the lan ip of the linksys, revert back to the original setup: 220BX>Linksys>Comp and make sure DHCP is enabled in both the 220BX, Linksys and the comp's ethernet card is configured to acquire ip automatically.

If this doesn't work, do an ipconfig and post the results here.

Setting the Airtel modem in the bridged mode would help. Set the router in ppoe mode and provide the necessary log in details. Otherwise the modem is already connected to the ISP and the router does not work. If you don't want to change the modem to the bridged mode- connecting the modem to the lan side instead of the wan side would do the trick. you could use the remaining ports to connect your other devices.all the best
