I received a call today from Airtel Fiber stating that they've upgraded the Fiber Network in our Area and now with an Additional charge of 100 Rs(excluding GST) i can enjoy speeds of up to 60 Mbps on my 40 Mbps plan.
I asked the representative if I can add this top up from their website or their Application. He said that this is a new feature Airtel is trying to roll out so it is available only for selected customers in few areas, so it is not available on Website or App. Once they receive a good response for this Top-up feature they'll roll it out for everyone through their App and Website.

I have a feeling that Airtel may stop providing that extra 10-20% speed they provide on their Plans, if this feature is implemented nation wide.

Quite possible. But how much boost are they offering with ₹100?
From what you mentioned, they are offering a hike of 50%.

Aren't they providing 100mbps on 40mbps plan? Or is that limited to few cities?

I haven't checked in recently days but my downloads on Airtel 40mbps regularly cross 8MBPS when it should not cross 5MBPS.

Surprising, as they dont have any plan with 60 Mbps, it was never required and the next plan they have is 100Mbps. How does that matter if you are on 40 or 60Mbps, i dont see this to be a good move. I still reckon Jio back up plan speed of 100Mbps for 1 day is better.

@Tejas01 I didn't get a chance to ask him what would be the % boost on other plans. All they told me was I could enjoy a speed bump of 20Mbps just for the price of 100/- Rs(GST Exclusive).

@armaan_99 It could be for the purpose of earning more from their Base Plan customers.
I've been on the 499/- Plan for more than a year now, and have received calls from their customer care time to time asking me to upgrade to their 100Mbps plan. Their reasoning always was that with 100Mbps plan I could get a better experience in my Zoom Calls, office related work and get more devices connected.

I've previously used Jio Fiber as well but never received a call from customer care asking me to migrate to a higher value plan.
I'm assuming that Airtel has most of their customers on Basic Plan because for bigger plans Jio provides more value.
Thus they're desperately looking for ways to make more money from them.

@Sushubh Yes this feature is only available in few cities for selected customers (as what their representative told me).
You could be right, since Jio is offering OTT based plans at lower costs they might be attempting to counter them with more speeds.

@Sushubh i am on airtel 200mbps plan and i got the customer care call so many times asking me to upgrade to 300mbps plan in just 100 rs.
i opted for that but if there is any OTT or offers attached with airtel's plan that it gets deactivated.

one thing to note is that in their system i was labelled as 8 mbps dsl plan but got 300mbps speed as per customer care executive words :). this i am taking about 1year back,

Hmmm... So everyone is getting a call about upgrading at a small cost while I get a call to upgrade from 100mbps to 200mbps for ₹999 i.e. pay additional ₹200. I even asked if they have any offers like upgrading at a discount and they said no.

Don't understand this partiality from Airtel..
