I’m a brand new customer of Airtel and we’ve chosen the up to 1 Gbps plan at my parents flat in Chennai.
Modem / router is AOT4221NK
We recently had the service installed during the second week of November and on Saturday and Sunday, we had requested the modem and fiber cable to be relocated to a bedroom from the main hall.
Ever since then, I’ve been noticing the speeds for both WiFi and Ethernet are mediocre at best.
When connected to Wifi and I’m using my iPhone 17 Pro, I would assume it’s being connected to the 5Ghz channel but when running a speed test using Speedtest.net, my speeds are 158Mbps download and 184Mbps upload. Even when using my laptop, the download speeds are below 500Mbps. Both devices are right beside the modem.
2.4Ghz is BW 20Mhz Channel 6
5.0Ghz is BW 160Mhz Channel 40
When connected via Ethernet, the port is set to full duplex 1000 and my speeds are 549 Mbps with upload being a whopping 877 Mbps. Now take the information with a grain of salt but after Airtel relocating the modem, the performance has dropped.
On an unrelated note, I’ll be setting up an Ubiquiti environment by the end of the week and will be using their own AP going forward and switch as well, so hopefully things should get better but I hope it’s not a faulty fiber line (black cable), faulty installation after relocating it or the modem / router itself.
Note when I wanted this to be relocated, the Airtel technician rep told me that the builder needs to lay the fiber cable and not them. When the fiber cable is relocated, Airtel will come and finish the connection / terminate it and then connect it to the modem.
Anyone else know what the issue could be?
Thanks in advance.
