@User007 You got it wrong. VLAN is just a good way to keep traffic separate for IPTV and alive in case internet goes down for some reason. BSNL IPTV still uses CDN but an internal one and is served from private IP addresses and hence ignored for data usage count.

Let Airtel actually launch the service first and we will know more.

@sloj If cable cutting happens, then even VLAN is also not works. Now fiber cable cuts are main reason for internet goes down.

That is a different problem altogether. In my place there is no such issues of fiber cuts except accidentally. There should be some initiative to move optical fiber underground everywhere. But then we don't have wide enough roads almost everywhere and then there is always some organisation doing their own things like water supply or gas pipeline underground work and they will ignore to inform or follow procedure and damage one or the other service.

I have VDSL copper connection. The local airtel store guy claims my area is now serviced by fiber and is willing to provide a new fiber connection. But any attempt to raise a request to convert the existing copper connection to fiber results in response in their system that it is "technically not possible".
With such dubious business practices, I would definitely stay at least a mile away from their IPTV.

IPTV launched in my area. I can see in airtel website. But I'm happy with DTH will not switch to IPTV because if any fiber cut happens or internet down my TV won't work. So DTH is better.

Apparently the only Youtuber which is covering it in detail. Existing Airtel DTH subscribers can't upgrade. They will have to surrender their DTH connection and switch to IPTV. And it's data usage will count against your broadband usage.

For internet tv too they are charging NCF
what a shame,
I mean one side we have JIO -> mobile tv and JIO TV+ completely free
and on other side we have ISPs like this which don't want to leave single chance to empty consumer pockets
