HiI had subscribed to Home999 plan last year for 256kbps connection and it was working great - around 30-35. Somewhere down the line, Airtel enhanced its plans - Home999 (384kbps) and Home799(256kbps). But I never received any information from them about that, neither I got the enhanced services. More painfully, my speed continuously deteriorated to 20-27. When I complained about it today, they sent the guy who said I was on 1:2 plan (what?). There is only one plan by the name Home999 and how can they not provide the service they announce while charging the customer as per that plan ? In other words, they charged every month Rs 225 more than what i should have paid for the service i got. It is standard practice to inform customers bound to get affected when you modify the services and seek whether they would like to continue with the plan or migrate to others. E.g. Apple did it when it changed .mac to MobileMe. It basically amounts to purposefully duping the customers till they can or betraying the trust. Definitely not the kind of practice you wanna see if you like India to become a developed nation :(I would like to know when exactly this enhanced plan came into existence. The airtel guy told me like six months or so. Let me know if you also experienced similar malpractice.

so are you suggesting that airtel should automatically move customers from one plan to another just because they launched a new plan?airtel never does that. and that is because you ought to ask them to change the plan for you... some people prefer to stay with the plan they are on. it's a catch 22 situation. just check the brochures they send in with the bill if you are not really going to check their website for new plans every now and then. if you are a regular member of a forum like this, you would easily come to know about any new plan from any of the broadband service provider in india.

On the contrary, this is EXACTLY the kind of practice that one sees in the so called "developed" countries. My cousin in UK had to wait one and a half months before they activated his broadband!! Moreover most of their plans (if not all - I don't know) aren't even have truly unlimited (though the limits are more generous than in India).

On this forum I often feel that we don't even know how good we have it here. The service industry in developed countries is for the birds. You are lucky if some broadband customer care person even talks politely to you.

So while I understand your frustration let's not forget that the grass isn't always greener on the other side.

And I do somewhat agree with you. It would be nice if Airtel set up a mailing list or a news page for customers who are interested in new plans etc. But perhaps in the interest of price differentiation they would rather not openly declare such information and only target it to those for whom it is intended.

Say around April 2008 or May 2008
BSNL Home900 became Home750 and all users charged less from 1st April 2008. for the same 256 Kbps speed )
https://broadband.forum/airtel-broadband/26676-home-750-now-official-south/#post182159
Only Four Southern States mentioned.
For Delhi or Mumbai BSNL was not available
No urgency for Airtel to introduce similar tariffs immediately in NORTH !
Even now different tariff plans are given for different states
On a personal note, I am on an old Home 250 plan ( 400 MB Limit ) with free surfing 0900PM to 0800AM. ( speed 256 Kbps ) total BB charges usually Rs 400 PM
Airtel dealings FAIR to EXCELLENT, with old customers.
They can say I am not eligible now and ask me to opt for another plan
Usually, we get details of the new schemes, prize promotions , BB plans etc along with the printed bills.
For instance if you opt for ECS you will be given a credit of Rs 300 after three months.. Offer is for limited period etc

All you need to do is call them and tell them to shift you to the *new* Home 999 plan or Home 799, if you are satisfied with 256Kbps and want to save the extra money. They had called me up and informed me about the new 799 plan and was given an option to take it or continue with the existing home 699 plan I had.
