airtel charges you Rs. 7/day for the first 180 days... after that your charged Rs. 15/day...

This is not bad for around 240 kbps speed .Wonder when Edge will come to Punjab. By the way are you always getting speeds around 240 kpbs day and night ? By the way what is the average uploads and download speeds for Edge in your area ? Thanks for the info .

also, i'm not sure about this but i read this in my phone's manuals that ur phone will choose an edge connection over a normal gprs connection if ur service providers provides u with an edge connection...

you cannot switch or choose a normal gprs connection instead of edge... u don't have this option. which is good.

manuals refer this as GPRS / EPGRS
first one is slow and the other one is fast...

when u connect ur phone and it shows a boxed "G" sign, this means ur on a normal 33.6-48kbps gprs connection but if your phone shows a boxed "E" then its EGPRS... this obviously means u have EDGE...

NOTE : theres no assured 247kbps speed from airtel... depends upon traffic... but if your phone does show "E" when connected, then i suggest u connect ur phone at 3.00am in the night just to prove my theory right...

performance is poor... the response time is horrendous... i'm not at all satisfied with the surfing... when i click a link it takes time to finally connect to the server but once its connected it brings back the data at ok speeds... so downloading is the only option i have here...

when i tried to upload a 50mb file to mediafire.com, my computer hanged... i tried it again after reboot, but again the same thing happened... i did a search and found out that ur upload is around 1/6 ur download... lol

airtel is promoting it mobile office internet service nationally (meaning the same service everwhere) so i doubt if there is a such thing as "edge" and "non-edge" area.

Thanks again for the info . Even N70 manual says that it will choose "E" automatically in Edge areas . Ive used their mobile office .The "E" never shows up but Ive sometimes experienced speeds around 90 kbps via "G" in my village side ! Tommorow I'll ask Airtel customer care whether Edge is there in Punjab circle or not .If not, then when is to supposed to reach here . Perhaps 3G will solve solve the problem when the spectrum war is over.

so the theory on "edge" and "non-edge" area is true...

no dude, the govt has a lot of hideous thoughts...

May be you have some inside knowledge of the govt's hideous thoughts.

Let's keep our fingers crossed

My K790 (EDGE Class 10, 236.8 kbps) also displays the 'E' icon in Rajasthan (although in some smaller cities it changes to a 'G' icon). Airtel CC says that there is no EDGE being provided here. The speeds are terrible (4-5 kBps) so even if they are providing EDGE they are not allocating enough bandwidth.

i have edge here and it provides great speeds but sometimes for no reason my cell picks up a tower miles away from another city.... the result is a 4-5KB/s speed... airtel is cheep and affordable but not perfect.
