I have been porting my sim card to different operators since I was 14, back when i would take my mum along for the kyc process and get it done
just Aadhaar card and 7 day waiting period this was back in 2018 and till early 2020

before Pandemic ,One could easily visit the store of any operator and get the sim card port without any issues but since 2022 or something
Vi and Airtel both force the customer to buy postpaid instead of a prepaid sim, citing that sim card is out of stock in there store
and because of this people who don't know about online delivery of sim card either take up the expensive postpaid sim or are stuck with their operator

back to 2025 now ,I upgraded from an iPhone 11 to an iPhone 15 Plus in Mid-February and that was the same time when Vi started rolling out 5G in Mumbai ,I even got to participate in the trials and later made a YouTube video about it too, but once Vi officially rolled out 5G in Mumbai. Unfortunately for some reason my sim was glitched or something i wasn't getting unlimited 5G at all, even tho I was on a Hero Pack and Vi App mentions that existing Hero and SuperHero users would get Unlimited 5G too

heck, i even made a report to CPGRAMS about it, after a few calls from Vi . It was clear that they would not rectify their problem at all and kept repeating the same thing again and again

Now I'm just 4 days away from expiring my current Vi plan so I made a request on Airtel's website at 5:11pm since today is Dr Ambedkar jayanti so i wasn't sure if stores are open or not .and even if they are open I know how shitty Airtel store employees are

anyway i thought i would get a call today, and then they would probably send someone over tomorrow morning ,to my surprise Airtel immediately called back and their CC team said we can send someone today and there is no need to pay him anything

This is a crucial point for me since whenever i ported to any operator apart from Jio ,i would be required to either Buy the data plan again or visit there store because there system doesn't recognize that i have already paid money for x amount of months during the porting process

the last time i bought Airtel prepaid sim (port) was in 2022 Nov, but it was awful because the guy took 299Rs during sim delivery but after sim activation there was no recharge on it ,and CC didn't help a bit ,I even complained to CPGRAMS back then and ofc Airtel closed the case with no solution

so today after hearing that I'm not supposed to pay any money now, I was relived tbh. Now i can wait and get the Sim activated first and only then buy a recharge of my choice

glad to see Airtel improving their porting process, at least to my experience

5:11 Porting request booked on Airtel's website
5:21 confirmation about booking
5:30 delivery guy says he was actually delivering another sim card today in the same building
5:49 PORT REQUEST ACCEPTED

I have also always had good experience with porting into Airtel and same for my family members. They come home and get the job done asap.
