Airtel Xstream Broadband has switched to CG Nat

Airtel switched my connection to CG-NAT yesterday I think. Oh well, it was bound to happen.

@qvik yes they are gradually moving all subscribers to dual stack - CGNAT + public IPv6 address just like Tata Play.

I am getting IPv4 address (via PPPoE) in the range of 100.178.xxx.xxx (gateway 10.140.x.xxx) but that is outside CGNAT range of 100.64.0.0/10 (100.64.0.0 to 100.127.255.255). 100.178.0.0 - bgp.he.net says the 100.178.xxx.xxx range belongs to T-Mobile USA (AS21928). How come Airtel is using this seemingly non-CGNAT IP address range?

I also get IPv6 DHCPv6 /128 address on WAN interface and PD /64 prefix for devices on LAN.

@ka2107 that 100.178 is a CG NAT IP. Mine is 100.208.xxx.xxx With Tata Play it is 100.96.xxx.xxx. Tier 1 or 3 city doesn't matter. They are moving to CGNAT to reduce costs of buying large IPv4 pools. Eventually the World is expected to move to IPv6. We are in a transition phase and will be for the mid term possibly even long term as many countries are slow in rolling out v6 addresses. India is one of the countries at the forefront of this rollout.

If you get that on your WAN interface you can confirm if it is CGNAT or not by typing "what's my ip" in Google and then scroll down. It will report your public IP. You can see the difference in the WAN IP and public IP.

And yes you get a /128 IPv6 address on your WAN and a /64 subnet on your LAN that allows for delegation to your internal devices that are on your wired or wifi LAN
