Airtel Xstream Fiber speed issues

Dear All,

I am located in South Delhi, Lajpat Nagar and I recently got upgraded to Airtel Xstream Fiber 300Mbps plan with unlimited download top up.

Since day 1 I have been getting speed issues where during the day speed fluctuates between 60 - 170 Mbps on WiFi and I have seen 300 Mbps only twice and that too at like 6AM in the morning. Yes I am using the 5GHz WiFi option and this connection is through Airtel directly and NO local cable operator involved.

When I spoke to the guy who did the installation he claimed that this is how Airtel Fiber is and even if I pay for 1Gbps this is the best I would get which is total nonsense.

Anyways I have spoken to customer care and they raised a ticket and closed it on their own without doing anything.

Now after discussion with the area manager he is willing to change my router to the Nokia device (earlier it was Huawei) to check if it’s the router has problems.

Can you guys please advise/suggest what should I be doing to sort out these speed issues. I have been checking speed on all sorts of latest devices at home including iPad Pro, iPhone pro MacBook etc. all of them show maximum 170 Mbps however upload is always above 300Mbps.

Really sick and tired of this pathetic service and I’m on the verge of disconnecting it, would really appreciate some help. Thanks

If you get it changed to Nokia ONT the same problem will persist of speed issue. Earlier AIRTEL provided Huawei ONT and recently got it changed to NOKIA ONT and our plan is also of 300 MBPS but the speed issue remains and getting only 90/80 MBPS speed. Airtel don't have ONT's which can support higher speed. THERE ONT's ONLY SUPPORT SPEED OF 100 MBPS. EVEN IF YOU LOGIN INTO ONT it will show FULL DUPLEX 100 MBPS. AIRTEL IS SIMPLY CHEATING THE CUSTOMERS.....

There must be some issue in your connection using Airtel Fiber with Huawei Modem and I am on same plan getting more than 300Mbps via wifi (using my own router).

AIRTEL replaced it with Nokia ONT and still the issue is slow speed

I will suggest to check adaptor is it showing ample power required by the router. Thats we learn from other user facing the speed issue check router how much current it require and then check adaptor most probably the adaptor is not giving proper current can be one of the reason here.

Did you check the speed on LAN ? and What is the link speed that you are getting by connecting the PC directly to the ONT via ethernet?

make sure you have a gigabit port on the pc which you connect with the ont through ethernet.

A simple search of the motherboard make and model would tell you if you have a gigabit port or not.

Hey what speed should i be getting over 2.4ghz ? I'm on 200Mbps plan , i get like more than 200 when connected to 5ghz but less than 45 when connected to 2.4ghz

This is normal for 2.4ghz. You will get full speeds for your plan only via Ethernet and 5ghz. If you want more speed in 2.4ghz, you could change the channel width from 20 to 40mhz. by doing this, you may get around 100Mbps.
