I am on Airtel's 749 plan (MH Circle) since March. I have primary number + 1 calling sim + 1 data sim (so overall 2 calling sims and 1 data sim).
I did not get any notification of plan being closed. Anyways why would they close or remove connection?
Airtel continues all existing users of postpaid plans even if the plan is no longer available for new users.

old 999 plan was the best plan for family with 4 regular SIM + 1 data SIM
Yeah, I feel missed out now. I had been thinking about getting all of my family members on my family plan. :/

All eligible Airtel corporate customers will be migrated to the new plans, as applicable from their subsequent billing cycles, the operator said in a press statement.

Is it good idea to go for prepaid annual plans?

If you aren’t paying your postpaid bills while gaining tax credits, its pointless to use postpaid. Postpaid is good when people with GSTIN can claim tax deduction. The bills issued in postpaid will factor in your GSTIN. Same can’t be said for prepaid.

Airtel app does allow for prepaid customers to enter their GSTIN, and Jio does/ used to do that as well. I could not try that out with Airtel since while converting post to prepaid they got my address totally wrong, so essentially State Code was not registered in my address and I could not enter my GSTIN. I think Airtel has that infrastructure in place. They will issue invoices with GSTIN of customer even for prepaid, if the customer has entered GSTIN.

I wanted to know, do people feel a difference in network quality between postpaid and prepaid even today?

Finally Closed Postpaid Family Plan and migrated 2 voice sim to Prepaid.
1 Voice SIM was easily removed and migrated to Prepaid within 30 min of request at Store. Store guy gave some landline number and asked me to call that number. I had to explain the reason and get approval for closure.
On same day I had asked to close Data SIM number. Later in evening got call from Airtel Support who convinced me to convert number to prepaid instead of closing the number. I said several times that I don't want this number. In end I agreed to convert to prepaid thinking that I will anyways don't recharge and number would close in 90 days :D
But that request was open for 7-8 days. Number was neither closed nor converted. Hence my Family Postpaid plan was also not getting changed. Finally after following up on Twitter, 8-10 later days data sim got deactivated and removed from Family Plan. I tried to change plan from 749 to 399 and it worked. Today when bill was generated, I paid bill and converted postpaid to prepaid through Airtel App. This also happened in 30 min.

So I could say Postpaid to Prepaid is working easily, but with Family plans it takes long time to convert.
