NDTV works. Ditto TV works. T e r r a r i u m TV works. Jio TV I was able to sideload but it opens in portrait mode and i was unable to navigate to Sign In button.

@igloo Yes , It could play any app in Google play store. It's just like your mobile smartphone connected to TV via HDMI, It has 4 USB ports so you could use Bluetooth mouse and keyboard or it also comes with remote to operate.

so it does not stay connected to bluetooth devices and the wireless remote at the same time?

question. does the device support all kinds of android apps or only those who are enabled for android tv? i have only tried kodi yet which i guess is optimized for android tv so it works fine.

Oops I just realized that Fire TV Stick's USB port is used for power and it doesn't have additional USB port. What I meant was, you need additional USB wireless mouse to control side loaded apps. And in some cases like typing you can use only stock remote. It is like you need to use the combination of wireless mouse and bluetooth remote if you need to use android apps

You can sideload any apk but if if the apk is meant for android tv, you will be able to control the app using only stock remote. If the apk is not meant for android tv, you will need wireless mouse in addition to stock remote.

Sadly these Apps are not available in Google playstore in Shield....... Even when I installed after downloading apk.... still it does not allow to open the app...

so i finally realized that why my unit was showing americanized content. my kindle account was still linked to Amazon usa. this is also the reason why Amazon Prime video content was not playing at all (i did not even test yesterday!). the support document is hard to find but lists the steps to convert your kindle account from usa to india.

because it was not working otherwise. i did read that people are able to access us content using dns services but i also read that you only get to access the content of the store you paid for. it does not seem to operate like netflix which gives you access to the content for the country that your ip belongs to.

What is censored? I was able to watch Californication in all its glory.

Californication was definitely censored when Prime Video launched. I checked If they have removed the censorship, cool!

a few more things about fire tv stick... alexa does not work. it was working for me originally because my account was set with Amazon kindle usa store. now it does not work at all lol. even searching for keywords seems to have worsened. what a shame. they have the technology... why not just keep it active even if it is not properly localized. my niece loves to use google voice search on our phones. she would have loved the same experience on the tv! but nope.

also... amazon, netflix and youtube apps (the ones i have installed on the device) have direct connectivity with the fire tv stick. it works basically like chromecast. casting button appears and you can start the video right from your phone. even if the tv is turned off... as long as fire tv stick is on (not sure about sleep mode), it turns on the tv for me, switches to hdmi and starts playing the movie. my mom was kind of amazed with this functionality.

prime video app actually has a button to start playing the video on fire stick which works the same way. using the mobile app is better than browsing through the content on the tv honestly so it's pretty nice feature to have.
