Android App development

Android App development is very popular these days, but is Java the only language that one has to know well to be able write Android based apps? Is regular version of Java language any different from the one used for writing Android Apps?

Are there any institutes that dedicatedly teach Android App development? They do teach Java.

I am not sure about big institutes, but a few are there, in Chennai atleast, that teach stuff like ios, android, vmware etc.
