As per the AE of local exchange, FTTH is coming to this particular exchange in about two weeks. I don't mind waiting for 2 months or even 12 months, actually. It is a typical assembly constituency. Probably, tier 4/5 city / village. So, the word fiber itself is a dream or unheard of.

Anyway, any tips, guide, recommendation or advice?

Anything that you wished you had known before getting fiber connection?

For example, would you choose a third-party ONU, rather than using ONU provided by BSNL?

I plan to use my own router by setting ONU / OLT in bridge mode. I also plan to use my own ONU / OLT, if what's supplied by BSNL doesn't have bridge mode. Do you think REVO 610GZ 1 Port ONU would work?

I have near zero knowledge on fiber. I don't even know what we get from BSNL is an ONU or OLT.

Thanks.

@pothi , I've a basic Netlink ONT, single port, no WiFi not even a reset button :) but it does the job. I was charged 1k for it by the lco during installation at march.

One thing though, get a decent modem. I had an archer c6 modem connected via ethernet to a cheap TP-Link modem, which was connected to the netlink ont. Earlier, speeds were about 92-94 mbps. Replaced the cheap one as well with an archer c6. Now speeds are about 112-114 mbps.

Wifi speed difference after changing the in between router also to archer c6 - 1277 plan.

I guess a gigabit router is worthwhile. Even those in lesser speed plans will sooner or later upgrade... Most likely sooner.

^ You seem to be a fan of 1110WDONT model. I prefer to use something simpler. Syrotech also seems to offer a barebone ONU that fits people who'd like to use their own router.
Yes, I totally understand the point.

For basic usage 1000R is good, and is also equivalent to V2801SG by Netlink.

I’ve been suggesting 1110WDONT because I have been using it for 2 years and no issues so far. :)
