Currently on 100Mbps 750GB plan, for Mumbai Server I am getting around 90Mbps. However issue start when I want to download from the International server, for example, right now I am downloading PyTorch with a max speed of 2MegaBytes instead of ~9MegaBytes. If I do a speed test to Singapore server same thing Download speed is around 20-30Mbps while the upload is going till 86Mbps. Is it just I or everyone is facing this issue?

And can someone suggest good ONT (preferably non-Chinese)
Will BSNL change it for free without any reason(upgrade to gigabit ethernet, maybe)? (it's on rent)

yup. even on warp+ there are no guarantees that you would get a local server. on excitel at my end, i was being routed through singapore. on airtel i was being routed through france.

just checked and right now it's bombay on both excitel and airtel.

Your direct ONT results does seem better than previous ones. Your best bet now is to use a VPN ig.

afaik packets are sent on the least congested routes not just physically close, at least they're close enough. (Someone correct me if I'm wrong)
No bro, direct ONT and through pfsense it is the same. Check out my tweets, speed test each hour (some times it goes till 65-70Mbps but comes down). There is a lot of fluctuation and for 100Mbps plan speed never reaching above 90Mbps. why pay for it. Just go with a 50Mbps plan

And regarding route congestion, yes it doesn't work on basis of physical location, however, the routes configured matters.

@sloj Thanks for the ONT information.

Regarding MTU, I don't know if anyone has ever looked under the hood of what actual MTU is set. If your router is following strictly following RFC 1661, even if you set MTU manually it would be auto negotiated with the PPPOE server and set to 1460. And if you try to force, all sorts of website loading issues start. (for me it was twitter)

I preferred the Airtel Mumbai server for the speed test, however, when shown that the speed is below 50Mbps NIB used to tell me it is an Airtel Server issue. Again the same thing would repeat if one of the servers reaches above 80Mbps speed is good else it is the issue of the server.

So the question is how would to test the Internet?

Well i guess our cheap chinese ONT's doesn't really care about standards. 😅 Changing MTU did fix issues for a lot of people here.

@Adithya Yeah I realized this 1460 thingy in OpenWRT. Even if I had set it to 1492 it was changed to 1460 from the BSNL server. And then the same thing with Pfsense (but it has the option to force MTU)

On BSNL ADSL and on FTTH MTU for PPPoE is auto negotiated to 1460. Anyone who faces MTU issues can try setting it to 1460 which is the default for BSNL ADSL and FTTH.

Not for me though. 1452 is my MTU. I once tried to change something in ONU and the MTU defaulted to 1492 which I didn't notice. Everyday I do a speedtest at night because I like looking at the speed meter.

But ONU crashed multiple times while trying upload test, I wondered what happened and check through the settings to find MTU being the issue.

Damn from azure Mumbai server speeds are low this was the max it hit 3.00MBps on 10MBps hahaha

Only I am facing this weird issue as mentioned earlier, Singapore server max 20-30Mbps, same with GitHub. And jitter in Overwatch with around 80-100ms ping most of the time it warns me of jitters.

Traffic shaping is bugged I guess.
@sloj you have a 50Mbps plan right and paying for that much speed.

I am paying for 100Mbps and speeds are of 50Mbps or less

All tests are from a wired connection.

Man that sucks. Have you tried contacting them on twitter? Paying for 100 and getting not even 50. I have speed issues to some servers but for the ones I'd actually use is fine.

Here's my 50mbps plan hitting 60mbps on vultr.

Here's my 50mbps plan not even getting 5mbps on Hetzner
