Govt says APAAR ID is voluntary; Parents face pressure to consent

On the official website, the process of enrollment for APAAR ID says “parents fill up consent forms voluntarily for APAAR ID creation.”

Another family, living in Pune, states that the procedure was completed in November this year. “We were encouraged to do it. However, we didn’t know it wasn’t mandatory”. Their son is 13 years old. “The schools made it look like it was compulsory, we did it because who has the time to argue?”, they added.

Is this informed consent?

A mother from Delhi, with a 10 year old daughter, states that the school mandated the procedure to be complete. “What can we do?, they asked us to sign a consent form, but that’s about it”, she said.
