Not with M1. But, looking forward to M2 in a couple of years along with the apps support is native for most apps.

I doubt that a lot of software companies will prioritize optimizations for M1 until it has a significant user base, but let's see.

yeah, as Rosetta 2 seems really good, But at least you are gaining with battery life this generation.

Microsoft needs to pull their socks. Surface Pro X was a utter failure. Hopefully they do similar translation layer instead of just pure virtualization. ARM will be worth if Microsoft do what's Apple is doing with its OS.

would the m1 8gb macbook be good enough for raw file editing? 16GB is not easily available. other option is intel 16GB. i am guessing ram is not upgradeable on the macbooks so kind of a messy situation to be in.

hard to explain the requirement. sis in law got into photography. invested more than lakh on camera and lenses. now she wants to learn doing raw photo editing. whatever that requires. i don't even know the app on mac for photo editing. final cut seems to be for videos.

she asked me for which mac to go for. m1 16GB was first priority. it seems to have a waiting period of 6 weeks as per local Apple store. plus i guess it goes beyond what she is willing to spend. so mi 8GB or intel 16GB are the two options. told her to get the m1 because processing would be fast though she might have to compromise on how many photos (or multiple apps) she can load at the same time for good performance.

if mi 8gb plus whatever gpu it has does not turn out to be good enough lol... i might get blamed lol.
