oh, thanks for info mate. I doubt india gonna receive Internet Tv anytime soon.I am currently having Connect Broadband 720 Zooom plan where Connect offer me 512kbps till 6GB then 256kbps. They don't have any decent plans without FUPs (which is less than 25GB i guess) available in my area for home users. I consume around 60GB on my 256kbps connection. So any high-speed plan from connect is out of my list.Another choice i have is bsnl. They were offering me 1mbps plan for a whopping Rs. 2200 something where they quote me 100GB of free data transfer after they will downgrade me to 256kbps. Which is out of my reach. So,I am opting for 800ULD soon. Which IMO is best i can get right now.@shr Apple≠Cheap. Apple=Ripoff

They can fetch media content from your computer or a pen drive or an external hard drive and run them on your 50 inch television set.

:
a decent media player would support almost any video format file that you would throw on it. this is something super expensive smart tvs cannot do because they ship with support for only a few video formats.
Apple tv also lets you access your content in your itunes account. some provide access to web browser. some provide access to youtube and other video streaming services. some also include radio support. some offer streaming music through online radio stations and so on.
of course, they also allow you to watch your photos on your 50 inch television set. from picasa/flickr/facebook accounts if supported and so on. all of this controlled through a simple remote.

i had no idea of how Apple tv works and one of my client asked me if he can get a 20mb connection for apple tv.i rubbished him saying its not available in india.now i know what it is about.:p

how many video formats have you tried? do they have subtitle support?
i mean try finding out the formats supported and compare the list with the formats supported by something like a wd live device.

I have tried mp4,avi,mkv,mkv 3D and mp4 3D, even 12gb 1080p files all with subtitles, the subtitle should be exactly the same name as the movie file
