Chennai, Feb. 19 The Arasu Cable TV Corporation, the State public sector enterprise for providing cable television services in the State, will launch its services from June, according to an official press release.

In the first phase, global bids would be received by March 12 for setting up control rooms in Coimbatore, Tirunelveli, Thiruvannamalai and Thanjavur.

Once the bids are finalised, the facilities would be put in place to enable cable television services to start by June.

The services would then be extended in stages across the State.

The decision was taken at the consultative committee meeting of the Arasu Cable TV.

Senior Government officials, including the Chairman and Managing Director of Arasu Cable TV, Mr Brijeshwar Singh, the Home Secretary, Ms S. Malathi, the Finance Secretary, Mr K. Gnanadesikan, and representatives from the associations of cable television operators across the State.

The Arasu Cable TV, which would act as a multi-systems operator (MSO) in Chennai and the metropolitan area, has sought the Centre’s permission to launch its services in the city.

The company has requested cable TV operators in the city to cooperate in the endeavour to offer quality programmes at a low cost to the poor.

The Tamil Nadu Government would consider the cable TV operators’ demands to bring down tax rates and take legal action against anyone trying to disrupt cable TV operations, the release said.

This is retrograde step. We want the governments to keep out of business, but now, the TN government wants to control what people watch. It will black out those channels which present anti government views. If the existing cable operators are to provide the last mile connectivity, the subscribers will suffer, because they have no freedom to choose.

thats a good news... I hope they bring in all pay channels at the lowest cost :thumbsup:btw, ajuravi, ur avatar rockz

Thanks for your complement Mr. asdfgf. The bad news is that Arasu Cable will be started first in some districts such as Coimbatore, Tajore, Thiruvannamalai etc., at this point of time arasu cable will not be started in Chennai as they need to get some approval from central government since the chennai jurisdiction comes unders CAS.
