I sent a message to activate 3G on my phone and got a reply message as "Vodafone 3G services are not available i your town yet. For more details, visit Vodafone | 3G Service

Am from Bangalore, and VF is calling that as a town !

Anyone able to use 3g in Nagpur ?If yes, then from which area and what's the speed like ?

Bro..

I too hv n1, hv got it long back, i called up at vodafone and they told me vodafone live will not work on it since its an smart phone and i need to take vmc, so i opted for 299 plan and my next two month bill came 1200+ each...

I sent a sms act 3g to 111 for which i received the sms about confirming its activation, but it shows E sign only and yeh let me tell you that I havent got VMC activated too..

I called up their customer care and it took 12 minutes to answer my call and rest 8 minutes waste of time telling tht i hv vodafone live activated on my handset and i need to take vmc.

with the E I can access all the service but speed is poor, 102 kbps seems lik vodafone live speed... and It doesnt show any 3g/H sign even after restarting my phone...:pleasehelp:I haven't taken a VMC...and still i am getting E and yeah i can surf with it.

So whats your take on it? Whats been missing in it for a 3g service? and Yeah I stay at Nerul hopes so tht 3g covers the area too if it does for vashi...:|

M planning to take reliance 3g service, coz voda hv been pathetic since they don't know whts going on in their sys...poor customer service...

Pl note I hv a bb and my requirements gets addressed by it but jus keen to exp the 3g.

I am a corporate user with Vodafone. I have VL activated on my Nexus One. Today after seeing the 3G free trial offer, I sent an SMS to 111 and got 3G activated on my phone. So now instead of the regular 'E' icon my phone shows 'H' icon but no '3G' icon. This may be because I am using VL and not VMC. Also the browsing speed has got better but I can't access any applications like YouTube on my phone :(

So I never expect to get Gprs/3G settings by SMS or with any one in customer service in most companies. :madness:
Have to search in the net/blogs like this and set it up.:imbored:
Right now Vodaphone trials are going on in Chennai.
I dont know what VMC and "live " you guys are talking about!
Since Vodaphone is not among my 2 permanent numbers-I got a Voda prepaid sim for Rs 10.! ( Rs 65 talk time !!:))
Even after sending "ACT 3g" by sms and getting confirmation of 3G activation by sms with in 30 minutes ,signal changed from "E" to "3G" only after 4-8 hours (over night).
First activated GPRS 200 mb/3 days-Rs 14 pack from the phone and when 3G was rocking ,went down to phonewallah and charged Rs 98/2GB/30 days GPRS pack.
Getting 4 to 4.75 Mbps in Chennai (main road ,city centre and not inside colony).
2GB almost gone in 3 days. This feast (3g in gprs cost) may last for another week max!!
These are my successful Voda APN settings for android::happy:.(it took a while to search and find.Voda site/customer service etc -dont bother-no use)

Hey,

I already have these settings but it doesnt show any H or 3g sign. It only shows E. The difference is MNC 20, where as in yours its 84.

VMC is codafone mobile connect & VL is vodafone live. The vodafone guys sell these plans stating that Vodafone live doesn't work on smart phones like nexus etc and hence you need to take VMC..

I am just wondering even after restarting it multiple times why 3g or H is not showing...

The speed is poor.... on E.

I have the same settings and the MNC value in my case is 20 as well. Long back when I had called up Vodafone customer care, they had mentioned that VL will not work on my Nexus One and that I need to subscribe to VMC to access the apps and stuff on my N1. Well browsing works like a charm on my N1 with VL. Since I have activated 3G, I am getting a better browsing speed but no luck with the applications. Also some videos (like the ones on rediff.com) doesn't play. I think that is because of the VL vs VMC issue.

Has anyone tried data plans with other operators on their N1's?

Nexus One for 3 G:
Iam using Nexus One with BSNL 3g for quite some time ( used to get 3 .5 Mbps till they capped @ 1 Mbps !)
and just got in to Voda 3g trial in my Nexus -S.
Trouble shooting:
1. Have you ever got 3G signal with any other 3g operator ever -say BSNL 3G in your N1?? ( To make sure your phones modem is functioning properly) .
Borrow some one's 3G sim (which is perfectly working in their Nokia) and check in your Nexus-One with appropriate APN created.
2.Can you ask a friend with other brand 3G phone (lend your voda sim ) to check voda 3G signal in the place where you say you are getting "E" only.
3.Dont you have?/borrow a unlocked GSM Data card to insert Voda 3 G sim to check ?
4. I hope you not checked the " Use 2 G signals only" box.
5. When "E" signal appears -means- your APN is correct. otherwise there will be no internet signal.
Sure "E" speeds is max 0.25 Mbps.
Iam typing this in my notebook with Nexus-S created wifi spot (also tethered bor battery charging).

OKay now let me tell u all who are using Nexus 1, I saw 3g sign yesterday and No H sign. the total signal strength should be -93dbm 10 asu, in that csase you will see the 3g sign appearing. Also guys though I hv msged Act 3g 111 I haven't got VMC activated and still I was able to get E which is edge.

I am still not sure if Edge which is showing is of vmc or of VL? Also when 3g is not appearing you will see E sign.
