Hi,I bought HTC legend, working on android 2.1, from Canada. It was locked to Virgin Mobile, I got it unlocked and now using in Delhi with Vodafone.I sent 'ACT 3G' as an sms to 144 and 3G was active on my phone.But I'm not able to see 3G or H sign on my phone. It shows E sign only.I used my vodafone sim card in Nokia phone and 3G is working fine in it.When I goto Setting->Wireless & Networks->Mobile Networks->Network Mode, I see 3 options, WCDMA only, GSM only and GSM/WCDMA auto..There is not HSPA or UMTS option in it.Does that mean that my phone does not support 3G?Or Vodafone has not launched 3G for WCDMA phones?

Hi,

I used my vodafone sim card in Nokia phone and 3G is working fine in it.

There is not HSPA or UMTS option in it.
Does that mean that my phone does not support 3G?
Or Vodafone has not launched 3G for WCDMA phones?

If it shows wcdma, your phone only supports upto 3.6mbps of 3g data. Try selecting wcdma only. It should work.

Thanks for a quick reply Nishant!

When I select 'WCDMA only' then it is unable to search for any network and it automatically changes itself to 'GSM/WCDMA auto' and runs on Edge Network.

I have not seen 3G on my Nokia N95 with Vodafone prepaid SIM anywhere in Delhi yet. Any way, I sent "ACT 3G" to 144 and got the reply "...We will get back to you shortly".Clearly 3G on Vodafone is not available in Delhi as on today. So, there is no need to worry about settings yet.

Topweb,
3G is available in Central and South Delhi and Gurgaon. It was working on a Nokia phone with my sim card. And many of my friends in Gurgaon have also enabled it on their vodafone mobiles.

@Htclegend

Hope your HTC Legend is not the American version. Because the HSDPA of American version is HSDPA 850 / 1900, while the HSDPA used in India is HSDPA 900 / 2100. If your phone's HSDPA version is HSDPA 850 / 1900, then the 3G of India won't work on your phone.

Check the Specifications printed on the User Manual and revert here.

@Nishant

You are correct, my Legend is HSDPA 850 / 1900 :( Can anything be done to change the supported band to 900/2100?
If I upgrade my phone to android 2.2 using the following link, do you think that would help?
How to debrand your Virgin/Bell Legend and get Froyo at the same time. - Android Forums

Or do I have to contact HTC support to change some hardware in my phone to support 900/2100 MHz bandwidth?

vodafone networks are down and are being upgraded, so the 3g services in thane area are down since the last 3 days....(:

You need vodafone mobile connect to access apps, I did that on my milestone. To be honest I think vodafone violates net neutrality. Too bad trai doesn't have the balls to make such laws. Also I activated 3g on my cellphone but I am not able to access it. Can anybody tell if 3g is available in thane.?
vodafone network is down in thane area so 3g services are not working in thane area, the networks are being upgraded they say:cry:

No harm calling them. But I seriously doubt they can do anything . Anyway, let us know.

So I just ported my airtel connection to vodafone, recharged my number with Rs 98, got sms that gprs is now activated, entered settings on last page, still no internet connectivity ? do I need to dial some code to get it activated ?
