are you even supposed to terminate a cable like this.

bsnle engineers came over to install their connection today. they put tape inside the box to hold the cable together inside the box.
Secondly when they first connected the line with their distribution box they checked with their meter it was showing -16dbm then they asked the guy on the phone to drop the power making the reading -26dbm. i asked them why did you drop the power he said the router will fry otherwise. wtf

Okay, not fry lol but too much power can induce unwanted noise in the connection. Less -dBm does not really mean better connection/quality. This is fiber. Power was probably dropped because the OLT is not that far from you, and you are getting a direct termination.

Box thing, looks good, much better than a lot of LCOs would wanna do. In the end, if you are connection is up and stable there is not really much to do, this is India we are talking about.

hahaha, 20-25 -- 27 is good enough, dw it will not fry they must have this myth , sometimes local eng even bend cables to get that rating not an optimal way but "Jugad"
oh well, happy browsing, and welcome to bsnl.

As per GPON standards, upto -30 is still considered "stable"; although no one really goes that far.
Test your internet extensively and see if there are any issues, if yes raise it with the LCO.

@f0r3he4d I can't tell about BSNL as their people live in their own universe and they think they rule the world 😂...

My excitel connection power -

The physics those technical guys did to your connection is out of this world 😂.

I recently upgraded to 400 Mbps & I don't know whether it's co incidence or what by my power levels dropped to -10.4 from around -14 something.
That too when monkeys took a big swing on the cable and bent it and loosened it. I will go and fix it once the kite flying season comes which is just few days ahead. Anyways...

So yeah I'm sure that my power is even more than -10.4 (probably in the -9 range). Yet no problem in signal or anything. Getting 420+ Mbps download & 510+ Mbps upload (both touch 900 at first). I've never experienced any fluctuations etc. Due to it or power levels.

Just do one thing. If any problem comes in the future due to power levels or fiber core damage then just say to those fellow engineers -

Literally uneducated people in their field 😂.

As you said
"they asked the guy on the phone to drop the power making the reading -26dbm. i asked them why did you drop the power he said the router will fry otherwise."
This statement is enough bro 😂.

Excitel works on same LCO model and if they start doing it then they are going to shut down their business 😂. Like majority of people want it to happen with excitel 😂. But until they're providing best power levels & speeds to customers like me. They're not going away anywhere anytime soon.
If you know what I mean 😉.

Anyways, hope it helps.

maybe their router didnt fry but surely my laptop running pfsense did jk. until now i only used to recharge till 125mbps this bsnl plan is the 300mbps one but im getting 350-400 with lan but when im plugging it to pfsense speeds drop to 125mbps. any solutions to fix it this is a very "jugaad" box i made with a pentium laptop with two usb asix nics.

My guess is that the CPU isn't that capable. Don't try to overclock it as that'll fry it 😂.

@f0r3he4d you're on BSNL's 300 Mbps plan right?
Can you do some LAN or WiFi speedtests? (where you get full 300 Mbps speeds).
