Just picked this for a friends dad from Amazon. Very small form factor and convenient to use! Charger is like a cell phone sized one, Motorola types.

How exactly is the user experience? How is it going to be used at your friend's place? Like a Tablet or a PC replacement? Why this and why not an iPad or Android Tablet?

It was a laptop replacement so had to get the one with 500gb hdd in addition to the 32gb SSD. So far I've heard delight but usage is not intense, mainly browsing and some MS office document work.
This was purchased from amazon.com btw.

This because it came with the option of the 500gb hdd and needed to have a full function keyboard.

Costed 404$, not sure if surface provided same capability and storage/form factor.
