Banking apps becoming spyware

All banking apps now want every possible permission on your mobile. Some clearly stating they will read your sms and other data for credit assessment, even when you don't want credit.

IDFC first bank is one of them.

Now even PSU bank like Canara Bank have started upgrading their apps using platformm Appzillon which is used by a lot of other big national and international banks. This upgraded needs every damm permission and all the time else it won't work. Their previous app only required sms n stuff during new registration and then it will work normally.

Now it has zillion options which is confusing and slow. Why bank app has an option for flight booking

IDFC also uses this platform now and it seems appzillon has a 'theme' banks just change their logo and colors.

All I want to do is some money transfer transactions and manage my cards. Only way is to use internet banking which requires so many passwords and otp.

Yea, even I was surprised when I was going through my mother's Canara bank app.
While Phone, SMS, and Location are standard in every banking app, thankfully Kotak and bob which I use did not stoop that low.

Phone, sms, camera, location is okay if they use it for correct purpose i.e. for verifying if sim is present during registration. And some permission for payment like scan requires camera etc

But they are misusing these permissions to steal all your data and make your credit profile. I don't even want credit. What happened to using income data or transactions data.

There is no way to know what sms is what unless they read all sms so their argument is deceiving that they will not access your personal data.

Google should come up with way to restrict apps from reading all sms present on device and contact data.

Canara bank gives best forex rate to me but are really assholes they never ever reply or acknowledge any email even when they told me to email something. Complain portal is there but you cannot provide screenshot or much information there. And who has time to raise complain to their head department everytime.
