Benefits and Advantages of Unlocking the ONT Device Router

Hi,
I am using Airtel Xtreme Fiber with a Nokia G-2425-A Device
I wanted to understand what are exactly reasons and benefits of unlocking the ONT Device Router.

Q. Being able to use the ONT Device with any other ISP like JIO or Tata
A. All the ISP provide the ONT device for free and also give free replacement if the device goes bad so
I don't understand the benefit of working so hard to unlock the device. Pls let me know

Only one reason i see here is if a user was using a good quality ONT device say for e.g from Airtel
and he then have to another ISP like BSNL or TATA and is not happy with the device provided by his ISP
then his older unlocked device will be able to connect his new ISP.

Q. For using the router in Bridge Mode.
This mode can be primarily enabled or disbaled by requesting the Airtel Support team which takes a bit of time but doable.
So Unlocking the router is not manted for bridge mode

Q. Having the all Settings in the router web interface unlocked to use the router in Bridge Mode.
A. From what i read some members have reported if we unlock then
we are able to use the router in bridge mode without any request to Airtel.
I saw in the thread that some other members who unlocked were unable to make the bridge mode work without airtel's intervention

We need to confim that unlocking really gives us the power to set the ONT device
to bridge mode with out server side configuration?

An Airtel engineer shared the below info---
If someone unlocks the ONT device Airtel is able to detect it and ban/ block the users also.
The only device which they were not able to trace and detect whether its unlocked was ZTE F670L
and thats why they have stopped supplying this router any more and mainly now provide the
Nokia device which can be traced and managed remotely
A. i read a solution to this (getting traced for unlocking) is setting the below
Security -> Access Control -> 1_TR069_INTERNET_R_VID_100 -> TR-069 -> DENY
Please confirm this.

I would like to also know what exactly the settings you all play with to enhance your experience?

Do we get the port forwarding working without buying a statci IP?
Do we get to Attach higher capacity HDD to the USB port of the ONT Device?

It will be nice for all to have guide about why and for what purpose one would unlock their ONT Device

I had unlocked both Nokia and ZTE ONTs of airtel. Then I dumped both and using a dumb TP-Link ONT. IMHO, there is no real benefit in unlocking these ONTs, except an experimental satisfaction.

@gmaster which TP-Link ONT are you using and which one's would you recommend if newly going for?

@Jagdish depends on how you are trying to use it. If you have advanced setup or just want to use your personal router then ONT should be as basic as possible. It will bridge the internet to your router. That's it.

But if you want to use just one device for ONT+Routing purpose or want to use the VoIP feature then you should stick to the ONT provided by your ISP. If you feel it's lacking features (which is actually a fact), you can always contact your ISP for bridge mode (except Jio).

In specific case of Jio, you need to dump their ONT Router combo or make peace with double NAT.

I am using two XZ000-G3s, one for Airtel, one for Jio.

also how did you do with jio please share any link or whatever you used

@anmolbhard004 no difference. It's just that if you're using your own router, then it doesn't make sense to use another bulky device just for termination of fiber. XZ-G3/7 is pretty small in size and serves the purpose. That's it.

For Airtel cloning GPON serial is enough.
For Jio you need to clone both GPON serial and MAC.
