Windoze is just plain stupid to allow sharing on all interfaces. I too have sharing enabled on my PC but I have a completely different network architecture. There is a linux firewall sitting between me and the WWW. My internal network is thus isolated and its packet switched. So no leaky information too on my internal network ^_^

Go to your LAN connection properties. There, uncheck everything except Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and you are pretty safe from LAN attacks! Everyone should do this, its very important.

i think first two should be unticked and rest two should be ticked...i really dont know what is the use of QoS Packet Scheduler!!

If you uncheck the first 2 then you can't share your files even within your own home/office network. So leave them checked if you have one. Using firewalls and giving restricted access to your shares are the ways then.Also if you don't know what QoS Packet Scheduler is, click on the ? mark you see on the top-right of the box and then click on QoS Packet Scheduler option .

To password protect folders (shared) turn off simple file sharing.folder options > view)As for Avinds post, no, they are not really shared, they only appear shared for administrative purposes.. IIS and others... also when you share a sub folder I think..

And that protocol can be un-ticked without harm. Or, even leaving it on is no real imapct. Almost no apps use it - in fact, NONE of the consumer apps use it.

one fine day on a local lan based internet system i got this net send fight going on my network. these guys were net sending the whole bloody network! i contacted one of the guys who later became a good friend. he later tried hacking my system and actually told me what my administrator password was! then told me to get a firewall to make it more secure.we had fun later on coz he managed to hack the dealer's PC and get his daughter's net package user/pass. great speeds and no limits. i surfed using his PC as the proxy

yup. if u have the admin password. u can check any bloddy thing on windows xp and the user cannot do anything about it...
