News Article in today's Times of India:

Reliance Big TV, an RComm subsidiary, will soon boost its bouquet of television channels on its DTH platform from 200 to 400, Chairman of RCo mm Anil Ambani said at the AGM of the company on Tuesday.

At present, most DTH operators are able to offer about 175 channels to their subscribers.

Ambani said the company will also offer IPTV services in major cities in near future. He said the company has entered into an exclusive technology tie up with Microsoft for this purpose.

He said India has the largest and fastest growing markets for pay television in the world. The country's viewership is already the second largest in the world at 13 crore. This market continues to grow rapidly as tv penetration expands from the current 54 per cent, he said.

who needs 400 channels :whistle:give us 50 good channels of our choice at some nice attractive price

Choices vary from People to People.. So, if they have to satisfy all parts in India, they ll have to provide most of the regional channels. so carrying 400 channels is a what they are trying to do. In that 400 channels ur 50 channel will vary from othres :):D

Well... i guess, they are almost gonna increase channels very soon because since last few days, their existing channel quality is just EXTREMELY EXCELLENT - so i guess, we will soon start seeing pixellations once they will add few more :) LOL

Reliance has come to the DTH market in a Big way. Let's hope they are able to put 400 channels in place successfully. But with the addition of channels they should also decrease the price of subscription.

How is this possible? There are only 370 channels which has downlink permission in India. How can BIG TV promise to show 400 channels?Besides, atleast 30 channels out of this 370 are not in operation because they have either not started broadcasting or stopped broadcasting permanently.
