I find all the HD talk to be a waste of time --

Why ?

1. All channels are coming in SD.
2. All series and programs produced locally are in SD.
3. Most of the channels still are not even in widescreen format and show letterbox content.
4. Everyone is running out to buy a Full HD tv, they see BR disc samplers and jump and get the tv home. Once u connect TS to same set it look crappy as you are viewing SD content on HD tv.

Even if reliance introduces HD STB, its of no use, as the content format has to be in HD, otherwise u will only get the normal SD picture on a HD tv.

People who have knowledge of broadcasting should be able to understand my points, others please look up Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
to undertand SD, HD, widescreen and format stuff, it will help you in making the right buying decision next time you set out to buy a TV set

I don't see any HD content being produced in the coming years locally, and just to watch a few international HD channels buying a HD box, is of no use ..

Still if anyone is still interested in buying HD STB, they are available abroad and cost around 35k,

You are correct - most customers of HD TVs in India are indeed largely ignorant about what HD means(I am looking forward to buying an HD myself so know that).
Customers rarely look at cable or DTH feeds while deciding. They largely make up their minds based on how the HD feeds look. They largely go by statistics and hardly by reviews no matter what - For them 1080p >720p 120 hz>100 hz etc

However a large part of the crap is fed by salesmen. Sample this -

Sir LCD is better than Plasma. Why? Because for plasma you will need to buy an AC to keep it cool

Sir, go for 1080p.In two years that will be the resolution on every channel.

Standard Definition upcoversion? What's that.

Also they have very poor cable tv feeds and mention that for a 32 inch TV you should have a viewing distance of 15 feet.

As everyone can vouch for, SD viewing is much better on a CRT regular TV. Its only for a versatility that one should look at HDTVs

Dear Friends, Though BIG TV is not providing/Planning to provide signals in HD, the Quality which they give now is really good compare to other DTH's. I had a chance to look at Tata Sky/SUN DTH and BIG TV in LCD TV's some hours back.BIG TV looks good and there are very less pixlization in the Video Output. Tatasky and Hathway Cable delivers the same Quality and i could see the Pixels. The Pic looks so ugly in TS/Hathway when the option "Edge Enhancements" option is ON. This is tested in SAMSUNG 32' LCD TV. SD/BIG TV looks nice in LCD TV's too with less pixel format in Video Output. But when we compare the Audio Quality, I found TS is giving a Digital Sterophonic Output.. i could even listen a small effect sounds on the Audio Output. But BIG /SD/Hathway i did not find much difference.

CC guys where saying that 5 HD channels are available (like Discovery HD) dont know about others. But you have to use component. Please confirm.

dude first of all the current stb that big tv has dont have HD capability and i have connected it via component, hell they are not even giving the free to air HD channel VOOM which is present in the same sattelite which big tv is present. and discovery should first get permission from the government.
and customer care dont know a thing

I see.. Actually i am planning to buy a Quality component cable on listening that the pic will be improved, and wide screen mode can be used. (right now i am using normal Composite Cable in Component menu option). Really will it make any chages in pic output by using original component cables (instead of conneting composite cable in Component point in the STB)

Buying a high quality cable won't help, many users have reported that there is not much difference in picture quality between component and composite signals as of today ... its better to stick to the one u have ...

I beg to differ, I have seen remarkable change between the two (composite and component) even using ordinary cables.

Also get THX certified Monster cables for your components. Why not use full performance when paying premium eh?

i to agree about the difference noticable in connecting via composite and component since i have seen the difference my self .but about using a monster cable which costed 4k which i borrowed from my friend to see the difference vs my profigold cable which costs 2000 there is absolutely no difference,a cable like Philips which costs about 700 to 900 will also do just fine, the only advantage in these expensive cables are they pretty much immune to any interference.

Yeh.. I could see color richness when i connect my Composite cable in Component Output option in the STB. Sure having an Genuine component cable will give the good performance. But i am unable to decided how far the Quality will be. But i have one doubt. By using the Genuine component cable, 16:9 will be available ( i do not want to see the stretched imaged on my TV). BIG TV says 16:9 is available if i use component Output.Anyone can clarify this?
