Bittorrent and BSNL DataOne broadband.

I got my connection about two days ago. I opted for BSNL's Home 3300 plan because I wanted the 10GB bandwidth. I could definitely use more, but I can't afford to go any higher. I'm pushing my limits to get this much as it is.The speeds are good. On an average, I get about 70 kilo bytes per second. But that's from regular FTP and HTTP servers. When I try to download something off of bittorrent, however, the speeds are pathetic to say the least. I get about 3kBps at most for a while and then it get's stuck on zero for a good while.Bittorrent also has trouble connecting to peers and seeders. If a tracker shows a particular torrent as having some 50 seeds and 100 leechers, I may be able to connect to some 5 leechers if I'm lucky.At the same time, bittorrent uploads go on great though.My guess is that I have to tweak something on my Huawei MT880 to get good speeds. Though I have no idea what exactly I have to tweak. Any help will be appreciated.Thanks.

check if NAT is available. their is an option to check that on azereus.

i think that the torrent u r downloading doesn't have sufficient number of seeders. try downloading a file with as many seeders as u can find, that way u'll know what the problem is.

Huawei's web admin inferface shows a section for NAT on its left side panel under "Home". And clicking on that link shows the following options:

I already said that even when there were lots of seeders I wasn't able to get good download speeds. But thanks for the reply.

70 KBps on a 1Mbps connection is slow in the first case it self.Thats just 55% of the said speed. You should get between 70-90 % of the said speed. Regarding tweaks try this one

I only use Windows for gaming (though, I'm using Windows right now because BSNL's dataone is temporarily disfunctional here and in order to use my laptop's internal modem I have to use Windows). So Dr. TCP won't be of much help to me. Besides, the 70kBps speed is only the average speed I get. I've seen downstream speeds going over 140kBps at times. Though, mostly I get around 70kBps. That's O.K. because I got the Home 3300 plan mainly because of the 10GB download/upload cap.

It still bothers me that I can't get bittorrent working properly with DataOne.

Which Bittorrent client are you using and from which is the bittorrent indexing site, that you have got the torrent from.I have used Azureus and Bitcomet, which gave very good performance. Some torents inspite of large number of seeders used to exhibit only low data transfers.

i am preety new in here,and i am also worried with Bsnl broadband limits, i applied for the service on 20 th january,but got it on 1 july. when the dooms day began. this is so unfare,you people had a lot of fun i believe.i am from Shimla.About torrents, use azeureus. there is an option that alows the users to Kick And Ban the uploaders. that can save a lot of data transfer.Ok

for torrents ports play very imp role.so try diff ports21,80,1124 etc

BitComet has worked out good for me if i leave my uploads at "No Limit" the speed goes up to 60 kBps on my 256 kbps connection... unblievable??? believe it!!! and in that case, i get a download of around 30 kBps, which in no means is bad in any way...

I am a stupid, stupid man! (don't quote me on that )I didn't check the one place I should have checked in the first place... bittorrent.com! The official website mentions that bittorrent uses ports from 6881-6889 range. And they were being blocked by the SmartAX MT880 router. Well, they aren't blocked anymore. The speeds are better than before.Thanks for the replies, everybody.
