.....hey, how often r u goin 2 dload a major update for ur os?? or watch streaming vid??? dats rite, not very often. Lets face it, without torrents and other such wonderous p2p networks our unlimited high speed internet connections are pointless. Like a ferrari on really bumpy, pot holed road....... useless.
If they(ISP's) block da p2p ports all v can do is use orkut, check mail and finally switch off the computer.
...............But if u know where 2 look, there is always another method

i use ubuntu and there are a number of updates almost everyday and don't care about orkut.. it's a matter of opinion, as i said if your internet usage revolves around downloading internet stuff, then certainly it won't be of much use to you.. what we're talking about is not blocking of ports, which is something that is not very likely, but a crackdown on downloading illegal stuff.. look at the us - their are very strict anti piracy laws in place but that doesn't mean that people over there consider their internet connections useless..

So you are saying that people who are getting average salary don't check their mails or chat with their friends online? PCs have become more common and its found in most of the homes in cities and towns... Do you think they are using Genuine stuff??? Do you think they all can afford to buy the original version of XP or Vista??? NO... But they all have it, they use it and some are even not aware that they are using a pirated or illegal content. To them, XP or Vista is something that gets installed on every new PC that is bought by them. Awareness is spreading slowly, but anyway a common man in India cannot afford to buy such original or genuine piece of software/movies etc but they continue enjoying them...

Thanx guys !! I was totally ignorant of Torrent, now I have tried and its just great. Legal or illegal just keep your fingers crossed that it will be there forever getting better everyday.

Thanks a lot guys, there are still no such anti-piracy laws or such cyber laws in India. As far me, I have been using torrents for almost a year now and it has been a great experience for me. But it doubt its gonna stay like this. A day will come, when torrents would be made illegal. I hope that day never comes. Till then, lets enjoy it. Secondly, I do agree to some users, that if torrents are blocked then there is no use of our internet connections. But we also need to understand that internet is not just about torrent downloads. There are so many things to do while you are online. :iplay:

torrent as a technology is not illegal. but just like a cd writer can be used to make illegal copies of a copyrighted audio cd... torrent technology can be used for piracy.
