broadband ut300 modem,link light stays on forever and had to restart to get connected

hello,
i have the old modem ut300r2u bsnl modem which had problem at first which took much longer to swtich on all the lights. then changed the adapter and been good for more than 2 years i guess, now may be for like mm past few weeks or month -- the link light stays on when i switch on modem ,it usually flickers then stays on after getting stable -it just took like 15 secs ,but now a days.. when i switch on modem ,the power light is on, the link light (yellow with no flickering) is on , sometimes pc/usb light is off , this is where i would swtich it on and off till i get the pc usb light (green on and is stable , then the link line would flickr to get stable - finally connecting to internet -- all this time takes like 10 mins may be.. anyone have come across this weird situation ,pls guide me what to do next.. i have also checked the voltage in the pin outlet of adapter - its fine. 5.4v is there as it should be ,. thank you.. hope to get some ideas and guidelines.
 
could be a line issue, is there noise on your telephone? connect the cable coming into your home directly to modem without the splitter, see if it works.
 
hello ,thank you for replying. i always connect it directly to modem, not using splitter. no there is no noise, its clear.i check with landline phone and also made few calls.they were all nice clear. for a week or so i had problem in frequent disconections ,so i lodged complaint today,the line man came and rectified it 20-30mins back
but i havnt swtiched off the modem and checked if the modem keeps link orange light lit for longer time which is the problem i am facing for couple months now
 
i checked again after the line man fixed those wires , he said they are rusted so he cleaned it.. but the modem behaves the same way. when i swtiched it on the link line will be lit orange , the pc/usb light will blink on off , then i have restart power of modem again. then link line orange light will blink and get stable in few seconds , then it i get internet working. but i want to know why the modem is behaving like this now - "when i swtiched it on the link line will be lit orange , the pc/usb light will blink on off" . Before when i switch it on , the line link orange will blink few times and get stable, then pc./usb light would be stable already , then i get internet.. i need not restart the modem twice or thrice ..hope someone knows anything about this. there was also a same problem like me in onepost.. but there was no solution in that
 
You could try resetting the modem, be sure to note PPPoE username/password/service name somewhere before doing it.

I'd seen somewhat similar behavior (repeated restarts to get network, stuck lights occasionally) when the power adapter had started failing. If you have some sort of AC power meter, plug it in and check if adapter actually is providing the full necessary power. (Checking adapter output voltage with multimeter isn't enough. Opening the modem and checking voltage at test points may be enough, I don't know). Or try with another adapter with same voltage and same kind of pin (be sure to check layout - outside/inside polarity - match)
 
after the line is repaired , its not that frequent now ,if i had to scale it.. i would say its 1-2 times now rather it was 5-6 times before. but yes i want to test the volt output in modem circuit .. but dont know how to do it. may be i could send pics and if anyone could guide me , i can do it. mm also dont have another adapter.. this is a new adapter may be 1-2 yr old now i guess.
