I've got my new 3g sim and got it recharged with 120 (got 180 days validity and some 17 Rs). After that i got it recharged with 325 data topup from BSNL office according to which i must get 1GB free data. As mentioned in the url.

But i got 294 RS talktime. What the hell has happened i dont know. And the amount is deducting for using internet. Where is my 1GB free usage. Did anyone try Data top up here. My cell phone is Nokia 5800 xm and I'm from Chandigarh. Suggestions??:(

This page is nonsensical to me. On one hand they have "3.2 3G Postpaid Data Plans & Prepaid Data Recharge Vouchers" whereby 1GB is 399+ST, but then they also have "3.4 Data Top Ups : ( Inclusive of Service Tax)" where, as you rightly said, it's Rs325 for 1GB.

I would go back to the BSNL office and tell them they've given you the wrong type of recharge and ask them which recharge is appropriate since, as far as I can ascertain, they have 2 different prices for the exact same thing. WTF.

Everything about bsnl 3g is confusing.

Tell me about it. In my country they'd have their asses hauled in front of the advertising standards authority and probably the courts for misleading/misinforming/confusing customers faster than they could blink.

While I'm at it, maybe I could quickly solicit your opinion on which of our tariff sheets is easier to comprehend:

i found the bsnl 3g tariff page to be ridiculous as if someone paid it to be made complicated

So am I supposed to first use recharge voucher first to get validity (even if I have just recently started with the service)? And then use top-up if necessary?

I had a similar experience. Tried to recharge 10GB 3G data card but it got added to my talk time instead. You have to be very careful using BSNL online recharge. I tried again and it worked the second time. The problem now I have is there is Rs 1000 or so credit sitting on my talk time! My experience tells me this problem happens if you use online recharge early in the morning or late in the evening. Presently, you would have noticed that BSNL online recharge is not working. They may trying to fix this, I would imagine.

Just to clarify did you get a receipt for Rs 325 data topup ?
Secondly, did you get the top up from BSNL customer care office or some shop or from any where else ?

BSNL office gives you a receipt for the Data top up.

If you top up from BSNL portal then you have to be careful as there are 2 types of Top ups :
1)Top up for voice(2g and 3g)
2)Top up for 3g Data

However, did you opt for the second option but still got top up added to the voice plan ? Please confirm.

Yes, I did opt for second option but still got top up added to voice plan. I think BSNL must have received lots of complaints which is why they are fixing the online process. The online website has been down for a few days now.

I recently did a data-top-up recharge of Rs 197/-. This denomination for top up recharge is mentioned on their portal. I did this recharge in a small shop when I was travelling. Also got an SMS from BSNL immediately about the top up.However as I used internet, my main balance still kept on getting deducted. My validity of plan is still being shown to be 31st Jul 2011. So the top up should have worked.Any idea, whether I misunderstood the top-up-recharge, or this is one of those annoying things with BSNL.
