Hi All, I am facing the issue of frequent connection drop when doing data intensive operations like file Download or connecting to a P2P site. I live in Hyderabad and i am using Nokia N95/ Nokia 5800. I tried at several places in Andra Pradesh but facing the same issue. Is this because i am using mobile as a modem or even Datacard users also facing the same issue? Any specific settings will help or is it purely the problem with BSNL in my area. Sorry for too many questions..... Thanks for your time

Hey Rams....I've been trying to find a way to resolve this issue myself. In my digging i did come across this same issue in the MTNL forum but got no feedback (https://broadband.forum/mtnl-mobile/56166-mtnl-3g-internet-frequent-disconnection/)

Hopefully you'll have better luck.

Dude finally some success :D

I did few changes to my settings and i downloaded 82.3MB file in sharp 11 minutes.

Let me know if you want the details. Not sure if it generic to all....but i am open to discuss.

Thanks

Heck yeah! Let me know....whatcha do????

Here are the steps i had followed. Some might not be applicable to Non-Nokia users.

1. Removed Nokia PC Suite and installed OVI Pc Suite. It is the latest suite from nokia and it had latest drivers for Nokia modems. If you are using Windows 7 then this step is more useful.
2. In the modem configuration properties, change the maximum speed to 26000+.
3. Installed the microsoft hotfix patch number KB925681. See the description of this hotfix and you can understand. Its closely related to disconnection issues.
4. Finally, i entered username as ppp and password as ppp123. Not sure if this change has an effect.

Let me know if this worked for you.

Thanks

Wow, that did resolve it. A thousand thank yous my friend. I owe you a cold one. :cool2:

HiI am also facing same issue.I have Micromax USB 3g modme MMX 310GBsnl 3g prepaid connection with 274 recharge(unlimited internet)Desltop with windows XP sp2.Whenver I try to download some file or open a site that download more data then the connection is disconnected. If I am just browsing or chatting then the connection disconnects after some more time.Any way to solve this?I am confused whether this is a problem with the modem or with the connection. Thanks in AdvanceSapan

I too am facing same problem.Recently I got a postpaid 3G connection, the modem received is LW272 and the SIM card is 3G.after around 200 MB download it gets disconnected, either it is connected but activity stops, i.e. no download.Download speed does not go beyond 80 KBps, earlier I was using EVDO from which I use to get upto 150 KBps in the morning time.Is there any remedy for above problem? I would be obliged if anybody provides some suggestion.

This is what I did..I am not sure if this is fullproof but posting it here and guys can try this out and post your results here..1.First connect the phone to 3G after manually editing the APN setting(bsnlnet) in Nokia PC Suite.2.Now disconnect the phone from PC Suite.3.Go to Network Connections and see if a USB modem setting has been created(by your phones name).4.If yes, then Right click and in properties see the redial option when the connection gets dropped...5.Now Right click on this Modem Setting(Phone's name) and click Connect..So next time whenever the connection drops this will auto dial for you..Make sure that you are not connected from the software..Guys please post the results here...
