@ashwin_d123 , you should be able to access your modem page with either 192.168.1.12 or 192.16.1.1 . If that is not happening only thing I can think of is to reset your modem and reconfigure it using resources I gave earlier.

Dilip - if everytime I reboot I am required to reset the modem then surely something is wrong with modem yes ?

This current modem has been reset half a dozen times at least.

As far as I can see, your problem is DHCP not enabled in modem. Did you add the IP as I described in Ubuntu ?

You can simply hard reset the modem and reconfigure it.

You mean hard reset that needs reconfiguring ?

Yes Dilip - I mean hard resetting that requires reconfiguring. I mean pressing the button with a pin on the back of the modem and seeing all the lights flash and then opening the 192.168.1.1 with admin user name and admin password. I have gone through six times at least.

Dilip - in order to narrow down the problem my friend will bring in a D-Link modem tomorrow and we will configure that and then we will see if the problem goes away or is it OS - specific.

I thank you for your patience.

Dilip - you are 100 % right. Currently the DHCP is not working with Windows or Linux. So I am working with a static IP address. When I switch options to DHCP in Windows I lose my connectivity.

I tried with Baton router. But that does not work either. So is this a problem with my port in BSNL server or is it a problem on my side ?

Also would the splitter cause problems ? Is there any harm in removing the splitter and giving direction connection to modem ?

Dilip - I am able to connect to internet via Ubuntu as well. Such a relief after 3 days ! But mind you - I used a static IP address. When I use DHCP it hangs and hangs finally gives up.

Congratulations - you were 100 % right. The problem is with DHCP. We have established that fact through your guidance. Whether we can fix this or not I do not know. Only you can tell me.

You are welcome. Did you try with D-Link modem ? What was the result ? Teracom is a very old modem supplied by BSNL. May be it has reached it's age. Get a new modem if you ask me. But since it is working for now ( with whatever fix you are using ), may be you can avoid buying a new modem for now and carry on with current set up.
